The FBI Seizes Major Online Poker Websites

Where do you think the owners lived? Where do you think countless other assets (buildings, domains, sub-LLCs, staff, processing accounts, just a fuck-ton of other stuff) were based? The US. Otherwise, how the fuck did the FBI just shut-down 3 top online poker sites?

LoL what the fuck are you talking about? They shut down the top three poker site's .coms and froze US assets and nothing else so far, only because .coms are controlled by ICANN and they can go straight to the source and take them. These companies are operating freely outside the US as we speak and will continue to do so. They are not "shut-down" unless you think the world consists of the US and nothing more. The majority of these companies assets are safe and sound outside the reach of US authorities I assure you.

Indeed.

Are you thinking yet?

I am, are you?

They're not the US Military. They can't just fucking invade offshore locales. The companies fucked up by having shit in the US that the US government could just take. They did. Shit was took. Just cos you're dumbass looks at the whois and see Isle of Man, Jersey, British Virgin Islands and someother tax haven does not mean the companies did not take liberties by having stuff where their lawyers would have told them not to. Every company making a 100+ million dollars a year thinks they are doing just fine they way they are doing it.

Hence this thread. Hence my post.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Uh, yeah, what are you talking about? You haven't got a clue dude.

Lol, why is it that when someone is questioned on here, the typical response is a dick slapping contest. Seriously, what is actually wrong with you?

Ok. You win. You're the big man. You must have a huge penis. Maybe it's so big it kills a woman just to look at it. Congratulations. Jeeesus. The government may be bad, but can you imagine if people like you ran the country?

I didn't look at the whois, I just heard that's where they were based. I guess if their domain was registered with a US company then that can happen. Sure, you're right, they had big interests, assets and operations in the US. It's not the first time the US has tried to prosecute some of these guys by the way. They failed last time. This one does look a whole lot worse though.

And as the guy above says: they can carry on outside the US, which does account for a large amount of their market!

In a nutshell, you can go offshore, you can register your domains with non US companies, but if it's a major TLD (.com, .net, .org, etc.) controlled by ICANN, then the US gov't can take your domains if you are doing something illegal with them.

That, some frozen assets and a few rumored arrests, are pretty much where we're at right now.

Fuck the US owns the world with this fuckin ICANN

Huh? They all work fine for me.. I haven't tried logging into my pokerstars account, but if the website's working, I'm assuming that would too.

The .coms don't work, but of course all the country specific TLDs do, which everyone outside the US uses. You most certainly can log into your Stars account and play as you usually would, minus the US players.

Dude, they are ARRESTING people left and right and said they are going to be seeking up to 3 BILLION dollars in fines, etc. You think the people getting arrested are gonna be out on $100k bail tonight? Think again. There's some serious anal raping about to go down that will make the FTC rebills and biz opp crap seem like a $50 parking ticket.

this is big. sites down. 75 bank accounts frozen. owners of the sites plus processors and even owners of banks have been arrested. plus they want 2.5 billion. it's not a "rumor."

Do not like this, it's slippery slope - first download/file share sites, then gamblers, what's next prawn or TM domains?

Interestingly though all sites like ub.com, pokerstars.com, etc still work fine north of the border.

How much more North of the border can we go?

None of the sites work up here...

I have a few friends who earn their living from poker online. Are they fucked?

Lets look at the bright side:

Pokerstars will stop buying up all the inventory on certain traffic sources.

LOL @ people who think they're going to get their money... 76 payment processors frozen across 14 countries.. yeah, your money is safe...

All you gotta do to get your money is show up at their office on some tiny lawless Caribbean island and they'll issue you a check post haste.

There has been more federal action regarding the internet in the last 6 months than in 15 years.

- FTC
- Poker
- ICE seizing domains of torrent sites

and various other shitstorms.
