The Slovacs made a real flying car

^^ my god, a flying shitbox

Basically the well-known jet pack problem.

problem solved. google martinjetpack.com

@ $200k not for everyone but mass production should make it more affordable. It climbs to 3000ft? and stays up for 1/2 an hour. more fun and practical uses than what else is on offer here.

...flying pintos

made my day

Too bad you'd have to have a drivers license and a pilots license to opearate one of these (legally). I still think the 'flying car' industry has a long way to go from this. It's almost pointless to buy one of these over a regular plane. Don't get me wrong I think it's cool as hell, just gimicky is all. It's a flying car with most of the limitations of a plane minus a lot of luxuries.

The sales video for those flying pintos is pretty funny, it does fly well and had FAA certified parts.

The same flight museum that has the pinto has one of these and they're amazing for being 50 year old tech, look how smooth it flies at 60mph:

The one at the flight museum is on wikipedia: Williams X-Jet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This would be fun as hell.

The only problem this solves, is storage of your plane at home rather than a hanger. This POS only travels ~400 miles as ~80 mph.

There are direct roads between most states. In most cases, taking off is going to take you longer than getting on an open highway.

It's flight distance won't even get you from Chicago to Denver, so you may as well just drive to an airport.

If you want to fly for the enjoyment of flying, a real plane is going to be faster, more maneuverable, and overall, more fun.

Edge case problem solving is a waste of time...

The bottom of that thing is low as hell...looked like it bottomed out a bit when landing.

And notice what they chose as a landing spot. A weird grass "landing spot" that are hard to find in many countries.

I think it is too low and I call bullshit until they do something with the landing wheels like hydraulics or make it have more travel.

And BTW that pilot was an expert as most test pilots are. Unfortunately most of the buyers of this would not be. I would expect many hard landings on these.

Why are you so mad at 3nyaw? Are you mad about something he said in the past? His statement was completely correct.

You're basically telling everyone "I haven't taken a high school physics class" with this statement.

But it wasn't correct.

Braking ability on a vehicle like this is largely dictated by it's contact patch on the ground. A larger surface area of contact means more ability to brake without breaking traction. Not to mention having a fourth wheel also allows for a fourth set of brake calipers and rotors, which gives another avenue for transfer of motion into heat.

Given wheels are of a standard width, more wheels more than likely results in more braking potential.

I helped them understand ebola. Then they went conspiracy so i feigned massive stupidity. They thought they had me because i fucked with them about incubation periods. Now they think i don't know what that is. Like really.

Geezes, I really, really don't want flying cars.

Hard enough to look out for the idiots on the street, don't need one crashing into my living room.

He's constantly being a huge dick faced troll here, and he was picking on the guy simply because of a spelling mistake. I'm not arguing about "breaking power".

if there was a spelling mistake, i didnt notice it. thats not what this was about. you fooled yourself again.

3nyaw is the king of bullshiters. He's nothing more than a wanna be pseudo intellectual.

guess his level of education, win 100 bucks. one attempt. only pariah can participate.

for everyone else, ive got a quiz:

if there was only one wheel in the front, but with an additional brake, how would that affect braking performance?

if the number of wheels was that important, why dont cars have another wheel in the center of the car, to aid with braking?
