The Solar System is cool and scary.

After you pass the edge of the universe?:

That's exactly what I imagined when I was a kid - one day going to the "edge of the universe" and sticking my arm out to see what happens. I imagined it would be white space, but that's still space, so the concept of "nothing" being there is strange to think about.

Ahh to be in primary school and being curious again!!!
I miss being a kid!!!

Wanted to be an Astronaut.
Then I wanted to become a Rocket scientist. Combustion Chamber was my favorite word.
Then right before college I started reading about Artillery after reading some Forsyth novel and wanted to build Huge ass guns. So I studied mechanical engineering and ruined my life.

Now I build links

But it begs the question, if someone was out there, looking back at our earth, would they be looking at the past?

Yes, relatively speaking,

It's also interesting that the speed of light is over 800,000 times that of the speed of sound. You can see lightning a mile away in near real time, but it will take about 5 seconds to hear the thunder. So you're in a way hearing 5 seconds into the past.

Sound waves only travel so far and need air, so they can't go to the moon, but if they could it would take about 12 DAYS to get there, whereas light takes less than 2 seconds for the same distance.

300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000+ stars and some retards still think we're the only species out there...

But it begs the question, if someone was out there, looking back at our earth, would they be looking at the past? If they could see the surface, would they see Pangea, because that is the reflected light that has reached them? If we're viewing light that has traveled millions of light years, essentially seeing the past, it means there are light waves in the universe holding the history of... well, everything. You only need to be able to view them.

This is making my head hurt.

This thread again made me think whether life makes any sense or not. Some random star dust learned intelligent ways over time and turned into humans.

So, what if there is something like light which can travel as faster than light as light can compared to sound. So that thing must have access to our entire past. And then, there is something on another level which is as much faster than that too. and so on.. Shit is crazy

This is pretty old, and the quality isn't that great, but it shows the light years at the bottom.

Also, Neil deGrasse Tyson is pretty good.

When you look at the sun, it's not where you think it is...

The speed of sight / light means that you're seeing where the sun was 8+ minutes ago. It's not actually, physically in that point of the sky where you see it (as it crosses the sky from east to west).

To a lesser degree the same is true of the moon - what we see is where it was 2 seconds ago.

Freaky. :)

If there was actually nothing beyond it, it would mean traveling into it, you would probably cease to exist. At which point, the existence of everything becomes more like an idea or state of consciousness rather than a physical reality.

Thank you for making my life pointless now ... :(

Don't think of it as being a tiny spec of insignificance in the face of the vast universe. Think of it as a free pass to liberation. Because no matter what you do in this life, it isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference in the grand scheme of the universe.

Encouraging ...
