Bear with me, I'm new to all of this. I'm still in college at the moment and have about 2-3 electives left before I graduate with my bachelors.
I'm very interested in learning about affiliate marketing but have NO idea where to start. I'm reading through the noob section and even all of the technical terms here are leaving me confused.

My question is this: Is there any basic beginner book(s) you would recommend? (I don't want an Ebook, I want something I can purchase in Barnes And Noble or on Amazon) I've also decided to take my last electives as computer classes of some sort. Any suggestions as to which one? I'm just looking for a little guidance....

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Do you have any suggestions on which computer classes would be the best investment for someone trying to do this type of work?

Honestly there is no class that is going to show you how to do affiliate marketing. The closest thing is probably a web development/graphic design class, being able to make landing pages etc. yourself is useful.

Problem with actual books is that they are outdated by the time they are published unless they are real basic - and that info's all over the place.

I prescribe 4 weeks of eye-bleeding forum participation whilst taking on your first project.

Be prepared to fail. I think the biggest thing that I've noticed from people who come into this industry and then leave and never come back was that they basically said, "Fuck it" after the first few road bumps.

If you've got a special talent like copywriting or web design, you can learn the in's and the out's of the industry really well by freelancing for the affiliate marketers on this forum. There's never a shortage of work but there is always a shortage of quality, English-speaking freelancers.

Start dabbling with some PPC or SEO shit on the side when you think you know all the steps and cogs of a successful campaign. If you eat, sleep, and breathe this shit it's going to eventually start to all make sense.

The freelance route isn't easy, and it sure as fuck isn't very glorious. But if you're having trouble trying to take the direct path from newbie to full-time affiliate marketer, it's not a half-bad path to fall back on. It's sure as fuck better than tucking your tail in between your legs and feeling sorry for yourself that you couldn't hack it out here.

Although as a word of advice, if copywriting is your thing then I'd wait a month or two until I've made the full transition to AM'ing full time because at the moment, I got that shit on fucking lock down.

To be honest, if you want to get started in SEO I'll give you my little "shit in SEO you need to understand" speech for free. All I ask is if it works out and you start makin some cash (like over 500/month) just send me a one time kick back. Kind of like a chance at an ROI for my time, etc.

If you don't make any cash, no worries. I'll still help ya out, etc. Just hit me up on AIM. The only kicker is I always do the talk on the phone. It's way too much to type. :P

Take some classes in html and php if you don't already know them. Build a website and leave the whois info NOT private, then sign up with some networks. (lots of times they wanna know if your the one who owns the site) The website doesn't have to be anything in particular, they just wanna know you can build websites since that's how you market.

The most important thing that you hopefully take from my post is..... NEVER GIVE UP.

You wanna throw a bone to some of us poor bastards who don't know anything about SEO? I'm a great listener :bigear: Seriously, if you're up for helping others, please let me know.

@SooSlow, don't pass up this opportunity.

You seem more suited to be an Employee. Get a good job.

That's a pretty brilliant offer that I've never seen made before. I'd like to be a fly on the wall for that phone call.

FatBat, if you'd like to talk about some SEO tips or want the speech (aka the rant) grab Skype and meet me online tonight around 9 PM EST if you can. Given that you're in Spain I don't think the phone would work out so well ;)

FlatLine same to you. Maybe I'll just do a conference call with both of you and kill 2 birds with one stone. :) And you know, SooSlow if you want to make it on too you can haha.
