Check out 47th Street, between 5th and 6th, or Canal Street in Chinatown. If you're shopping downtown, bring cash and they'll cut you a better deal. Don't forget to haggle, haggle. It's all negotiable.sorry for thread hijack. anyone have a favorite jewelry store? i'm looking for a breitling while im there

Never had that experience at Le Barnardin. I've been there a few times now, and it's definitely my favorite upscale restaurant in NYC.Le Bernardin for sea food/fish. Last time I was there I had to wait 20-25 minutes on my 10:30pm reservation, the waiter was extra-snotty, and the tables seemed too close together. I'd still go back though, that night might have been a fluke, it was fine the other times I've been.
Not sure what part of Chinatown you've been to, but the places that I've been to had very few tourists, and very little English being spoken. Definitely not gringo-style Chinese food. And you don't need to go to Flushing, either, since Xi'an Famous Foods (not your typical Chinese food, by far) has Chinatown & St. Marks Place locations now.sampunk said:if you want real Chinese food go to flushing. Half price tickets are available every day at the TKTS stand at Times Square. You can't miss it, it's a big red and white sign with tourists on line.tickets are too late to buy now (gotta get them really early AFAIK)

RUB BBQ for BBQ...freakin AMAZING
Just ate an awesome hamburger and fresh fries at Five Guys Burgers and Fries, one block north of the Hilton.
I've been reading about this place everywhere and had to try it.
Rub is crap..went there twice. meat was dry and sauce tasted weird. Rack and Soul around Columbia is a much better BBQ joint
Well smart-fuck, considering I've been traveling all day, just checked into the hotel and just wanted to fucking grab a quick bite at a place I've been curious about, and that was within walking distance, it was just fine.congrats on coming to nyc and eating @ a chain restaurant thats all over america lol
