I know the deed is now done (and congrats on the Eastman) but you might have a look at the Ibanez Artcore series. For a guitar that one has to stretch to spend even a thousand dollars they are fantastic. I also played a few Hagstroms when I was searching around for a semi-hollow and found them very nice for the price, and they aren't something one sees everywhere.

I have a friend with a mid-low range artcore. I wouldn't get one. The Artstars are WAY better, but they stopped making them and they are harder to find now. I saw this sweet one on eBay, but it's well over my budget:

Weird man ... I played an AS73 and AS103 about two years ago and loved them. Ibanez puts a lot of value into their instruments relative to what else one can get for the price.

I have an ultra cheapo semi-hollow (Epiphone Dot) and love it, but then I don't gig and am kind of a tightass when it comes to spending money.

I am strictly a double-humbucker Gibson kind of gal... but I'll have to say the guitar that melts my heart (and someday will sink a few g's out of my wallet) is a classic pre-WW2 Gibson L-00.

If it was good enough for Robert Johnson to sell his soul to play, hey, it's got to be good, right?

An aside, but that Iceman looks like the guitar that Paul Stanley used to play back in the mid-70s. I have no idea what it actually was but it had that same elongated piece on the bottom.

Fuck, I forgot about the Internets ... one never need "always wonder" something, ever again!

According to this page it appears that the guitar of which I am thinking might actually be an Iceman, or an older predecessor of it:

Yes, I do have two recommendations:

Those are my two babies right there.

The left one is a Silvertone Apocalypse
The right one is an Ibanez Iceman IC350

They both sound and play GREAT - especially the Iceman!

That silvertone is fuckin Sick!! I used to sell Ibanez so i'm pretty familiar with them....the iceman is also nice.

Do you know what shape the neck is on the Silvertone? I might look into that one...right now i have a 72 Tele custom with a custom pickup configuration...as the stock pups aren't exactly my thing.

Jack White has got some crazy axes. I'm still happy with my blond '78 Gibson ES-175 and my '86 Guild D-15 acoustic.

yamaha and ibanez craft some nice jazz boxes

the mike stern signature is nice for jazz too

I've got a Ibanez AR250, which looks similar to a Les Paul double cutaway. It was reasonably priced, and really good quality for the money.

I'm currently in the market for a new amp and was thinking about a Fender HotRod Deluxe.

Anyone here recommend a nice amp?

ibanez has some really good shit if you have a low budget, I'm trying to teach my girlfriend how to play so I bought her an sa260fm and I couldn't believe how awesome the guitar is for the price.

Yeah - he's the reason I wanted an Iceman in the first place. :)

I used to have a big Kiss poster on my wall when I was younger. It was one of the classic concert shots from their '77 tour. The Iceman was very prominent in that picture, and I remember telling myself "I WILL have myself one of those guitars some day" :)

Shit, now I want one just because it's there.

What's the deal with yours? It looks a LOT fancier than the ones I'm finding online ... is it customised or was it a highline version or what?

Are you referring to the Apocalypse? If so, yeah the one I have was a limited-issue, with real cracked mirror glass - similar to the one Paul used on stage. The ones you see on eBay and such are the standard issue model with black and red paint.

I know a guy who will do the mirror job on that guitar for you and his work is excellent. If you're interested, pm me.
