This gave me more faith in Obama's presidency

I could give a fuck about McCain. I would be happy with Hillary but Yes I will fight to the end to keep a marxist out of office.
I was talking about Bush.

McCain, Hillary, Obama, Romney, it's all the same. More debt, more war, more government, more taxes.

Even if Obama's policies were socialist - which, by global standards they certainly aren't - calling him a marxist is just plain wrong and makes you look like a twat.

Is every one who thinks some right wing policies are correct a fascist?

How are you sure of his politics? No one knows..he likes to vote present on bills that matter. I do know that he spouts marxist ideology and seems to like to befriend biggots, communist, terrorist and marxist.

If it looks and quacks like a duck...well you know the rest.

BTW: hows that socialism thing working out for you guys, there across the pond?

Haha.. gotta laugh, you don't have the faintest idea about Marxism or socialism do you?

By the way, it's pretty much capitalist all the way here. The most socialist countries in Europe (the Scandinavian nations) happen to be the most successful, with higher income per capita and longer life expectancy that both the US and UK.

Sorry to interrupt the regular programming, but a quick aside...

I'm a non-partisan observer and read all of the political threads here. This is exactly the type of discourse that people should be having throughout the year.

Yes, there's a bit of bluster and name-calling. That's to be expected and can even help solidify a point (though, it often detracts from it). But, the value of this discussion is immense. Facts are revealed. Perspectives are explained. And opinions are debated. Some are relevant and some are less so. That's okay and it helps to foster the discussion.

If only this type of dialogue could permeate our culture every day. Health care, taxes, education, and a host of issues could be debated, exposing falsehoods while we push each other toward pragmatism and logic.

That's when real magic happens.

Last week, I saw an old friend at Starbucks. I asked him, "Greg, whaddaya think... Obama or McCain?"

He answered. I pressed, "Bullet points, gimme... why him?"

His response blew me away. Not only was it logical; it revealed a perspective I hadn't considered. I completely disagreed with him, but opening my eyes yielded value, nonetheless.

That's why a continuing discourse is so important. And that's what we're enjoying here.

I have my preference for President, but will keep it private. Frankly, I'm less interested in the candidates and more so in the psychology behind the campaigns. What's more, the reasons why society veers one way or the other constantly fascinate me. From Obama's use of soothing words to a troubled public to McCain's VP strategy, it's one of the best shows on earth.

But, more importantly, having a place where disparate opinions can be openly debated is one of the essential joys that we should exploit more often.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

This thread just got rescued. Thanks. A truly refreshing outlook.

why do you think Bush received softball questions from the media for the last 8 years? He threatened to cut off their access if the media asked him tough questions, or pushed him during a press conference.

Trying to shut up a reporter and threatening to not give their station any further interviews just because Joe Biden didn't like the question; that's protecting free speech. McCain is not my first choice but he beats the alternative.

So..I thought you guys were asshurt for someone NOT LIKE BUSH. So why are you taking up for Obama for acting like Bush????

oh shit dude, go make a fucking website already - I promise, your vote for McCain will wash out my vote for Obama, fair nuff? :love-smiley-087:

You know, I heard that McCain did a lot of associating with VietCong troops a few years back... He even entertained them at their parties.
[/fuel to fire]
How can you people honestly criticise Obama's connections, and then not even question connections with the president you already have?
Think about it for a moment. McCain and Bush have as strong friendship. Both Bushs have several links to middle-eastern terrorism, either through funding of certain oil companies, or through being the guy in charge of the CIA that actually signed off on the funding for Al-Qaeda in the first place.
That doesn't sound like either Bush really kept the country all that safe.

popeye: So, from all this talk of communist connections, I assume you're voting for McCarthy?
Socialism and Communism are two different things, and neither party is offering either.

I have read through this whole thread again, and again I say the Popeye has it right. Senator Obama does not deserve to be the President of the greatest country in the world.
Well it's a good thing he's just running for the US presidentials then, isn't it? ;)

When the fuck did Bush get the OK to run for a third term?????

Lets talk about McCain. The Bush thing is old and almost to it's end.
