Embody Chair - Extreme Home Makeover - Herman Miller Official Store

photo_gallery_embody_4

can't believe they're so expensive..... probably going to make it as a reward to myself for finishing one of my big projects/products.

I have an Aeron now, like it a lot. Anybody using the Embody?

Herman Millers are the shit, if you want a chair that is going to last you a good 10 years and make your back feel like you just fucked the fountain of youth .. this is your girl.

OMG I've always wanted to get Herman Millers' chair. Looks like I'll be rewarding myself with it very soon too. "Business expense" :)

Too bad you missed out on the big Herman Miller sale that just happened. I picked up an Embody few weeks ago, and it is straight cash money.

When you actually unbox it it doesn't look like it would be comfortable at all but it's the greatest chair I could imagine spending time in.

Some people think it's crazy to spend a $1000+ on a chair but they obviously don't know what they are talking about. Break down the amount of time you are going to spend in it and it makes a lot of sense, like buying a nice economic keyboard or mouse.

how much did you pay for the embody?

It was 15% off so if I remember right it was just north of $1000, I want to say $1019 or so. I didn't any of the extra features, like leather arm pads or the chrome base or anything like that.

Oh and to those that are thinking about going out and sitting in one in a dealership, I'm not sure it'll do the chair justice.

It took me about 2-3 days to full adjust to the chair and get my settings right. My last chair was no where near as supportive or high enough (I'm 6'2") and I actually kind of found the embody a little ridged at first.

Make no mistake once it's set right it's like a glove on your back. I have had zero knee (now that I have a chair that goes high enough) or back pain/strain since making the switch. Worth every penny IMHO.

If your looking to get it on the cheap this place has open box units (choices are very limited):

I ended up ordering mine through these guys (got it in 2 days):

Shop around, looks like there are still some good deals out there. Make sure to thoroughly read the site you are purchasing from as they may not stock some or any chairs and you'll end up waiting forever for it. Also there are a lot of sites out there that are not authorized Herman Miller dealers so I'm not sure what that would do to the warranty of the chair but the prices are generally lower but normally not by much. I went with an authorized dealer because I figure if I'm spending this much on a chair I want to make damn sure it's covered.

It's a really nice chair, and I seriously wanted to like it because it looks so pimp. Unfortunately, it was not the chair for me. I ended up going with the Steelcase Leap; not as gorgeous, but a lot more comfortable during long sessions.

I found decent prices online, but a local dealer here was able to blow those prices away...by a longshot. Also, they allowed me to take a demo chair for a few weeks, which I am immensely glad they did considering the issue I have with this chair.

Okay, the chair has one of the best backs around. It is almost infinitely adjustable which may be a benefit or a hindrance. I will honestly say this is the only thing that it beats out on the Leap.

Here is my primary issue with the Embody. The seat is okay for the first few hours, but after about 4 or 5 hours total in the seat, my ass was done with it. Finished. It didn't matter if I went and walked the dogs or whatever, when I came back it was like sitting on a fucking park bench.

Also, the arms do not adjust as completely as the Leap, so those two factors were why I took my demo chair back. Oh, and I spent as much on my Leap as the Embody would have cost me. :anon.sml:
If they would ever make a chair with the Embody back on a Leap base with the arms it would be the best chair EVAR.

IMO best one is Amicus Teknion (recommended by Chiros, because almost EVERYTHING can be adjusted in the chair). Be prepared to shell out a thousand bucks, shit weights a ton and hella ugly. But your back will love you for it.

Ugh, I need a new chair... My $199 Staples chair is not cutting it, I feel like I get fucked by Ron Jeremy every day. :(

I picked up an embody about a year ago and I love it. Mine is lime green/white with the chrome legs. I think it ran me $1400? But I was the first person to buy one from the store i went to. It was basically a pre-order.

It has a 15yr warranty so the way I see it its costing me less than $100 a year. Where as all other office chairs I have had in the past would go to shit after 6-12 months. A great investment.

I have the Embody, it's a great chair and helps a ton when you have a sore back.

The Aeron blows, most uncomfortable chair I've ever sat on.

Good luck ever having to use the warranty on your Embody. I've had my Aeron for 6 years now and the thing doesn't even have a squeak in it.

Herman Miller's premiere chairs are definitely worth the investment. You can't put a price on having a healthy back and legs when you're sitting for hours on end every day.

u dont need a 1k chair, just get yourself a gym membership and do back extensions. no chair is gonna help your lower back as much.

if you have back aches that's a sign that your back (lumbar specifically) isn't strong enough to support your crap posture, in which case, I recommend low weight dead lifts, back extensions and situps. the more you build the core, the less your back will ache, including your upperback. Tell me your back still aches after 2 weeks of hitting up the gym and doing stiff legged deadlifts, regular deadlifts, squats, and lower back extensions.

Just thought I'd toss this link out there... This thread got me looking at new chairs (as I sit in my office chair with a folded soft blanket under my ass and a bunched up jacket in my lumbar because I'm so physically FUCKED by this thing) and this site has some good prices in the Steelcase Leap that DanWesson mentioned.

Albeit, they are 'open-box', but I know some of you aren't as baller as the rest, and like me, just can't spend a fucking G on a chair right now.

Leap Chair by Steelcase LP-K-10

I've had an embody since they first came out. It's nice and it seems like it will last forever so I count it as money well spent.

Got it for $1275 shipped in March of 09.

When you're sitting as much as I do, I wanted to buy the best thing available.
