This shit is crazy. These big banks be robbing us blind!

My local bank started doing overdraft protection by opt in. The deadline to opt-in is, coincidentally, tomorrow.

They started doing opt-in because of government regulation. Chase was hounding my ass for months with phone calls (voice mail) and email (trash) until finally a personal banker cornered me to try and get me to opt in, I finally had to politely rephrase "fuck off". If the government didn't force this on banks you would have found you had already "opted in" by default.

HSBC is shit man. they charge me for incoming wire transfers. Retards

Do you ever ask for the fee to be waived? Retard. I've never been charged a wire transfer from HSBC in my life.

People always bitch and complain because they're paying these fees... most you get rid of if you bother to 1) ask 2) read up on what the bank offers for certain clients.

It's just like a friend tells you he'll give you a grand next month. Next month he may give it to you... but chances are he's not going to be excitedly knocking down your door and handing over the cash.

Same way with ANY bank. They'll push fees on you, high interest, etc until you ask for them not to. Then you'll be amazed how lenient they become.

Plan where you want to be in 5 years and start building those relationships now.

Some of the best advice you'll ever get.

If you have $150 in your checkings account and you go spend $200 on your debit card then you fail at math and deserve the overdraft.

-rep for Citibank. They were charging me $10 per overdraft incident until I finally noticed. They charge $10 even if the overdraft is a dollar or two, and this is how their overdraft protection works. Beware of Citibank = fee whores.

lol you think $10 is bad? $35 from BOFA + $35 for timing.
Lost my job a few months ago, called and said "hey stop auto charging my cc payments" they ignored me and I've been hit with about a grand in fees because they just kept trying to take the payments, on top of charging me for the OD they created they charge me for not fixing it fast enough.
Banks are evil.

Since I be stupid with the money, I have overdraft protection on my accounts for up to $2k.
You do have to ask for it.

the biggest thief is Federal Reserve and inflation created by banks.

nobody cares because they can't see it happen or don't understand it.

Not sure where you are located but I DO NOT get charged for the fee but rather the release of FIRC (Foreign Inward Remittence Certificate) which is legally needed by the tax-man (and HSBC is the CHEAPEST).

Plus they are so awesome, they do not charge me for first three International ATM usage and then it is just 2€ per transaction (for figure, Citi charges 10€ for the same and other local bank charged 25€) -- with the BEST Forex Exchange rate.

I love HSBC and the speed at which they move my money (from US to India within 24 hours - citi took 3 days at least, usually 4). I got a BusinessVantage account. Maybe you should check into different account offerings rather than bitch about it on a forum?
