To .biz or not to .biz? That is the question.

Hey fellas, so I'm thinking about starting a tech blog and I've found a great domain name prefix that is short and also a well known technology. The domain would really fit in with what I see the blog becoming. Since the prefix is so short and also well known, I don't think I'll have problems with visitors forgetting the name of the site even if they don't bookmark/rss it. Anyway, my problem is that the only viable domain extension is .biz since all other "good" extensions are taken for this prefix. I'm a little reluctant to register a .biz because the first thing I think of when I visit a .biz domain is "Oh god, they're trying to sell me something" and makes me question the site as a "news source". My question is, should I just go ahead and register the domain or go back to the drawing board to come up with a more brandable and available .com domain? I'd really like some input from Barman, if possible.

Edit: Can anyone also explain to me other disadvantages of a .biz domain? (SEO, etc...)

TL;DR

Starting tech blog
Have to choose domain
Common short domain available
Ends in .biz though
Register .biz, or find a longer .com?

Here's my input...

I own a .bz domain, not a .biz. Get with the fucking program.
You're misunderstanding why I wanted your input. I should have clarified. The reason I wanted your input, is because you have a short domain and chose to end it with a ccTLD instead of registering a longer .com domain name. The reason is obvious (who would skip out on "ppc"?), but I was wondering if you would've made the same choice if you didn't have an audience like WF, clout on this forum, and could link it in your profile for all to see? I'm not saying all your traffic comes from WF, but I'd imagine that this is where they first saw it and where it gained a larger following as they told their friends.

i had the domain for a long time before we starting posting straight bullshit on it then it became popular.

so my input is null

Your Question:

My question is, should I just go ahead and register the domain or go back to the drawing board to come up with a more brandable and available .com domain?

My Answer:

When you look at a domain name, especially if you are trying to optimize SEO, I would really try to look at a few factors.

1. Research your keywords that you may try to maximize them before buying your domain name,

- When you research these keywords, try to look at the competition on these phrases, as well as how hard will it be to make your site popular.

After researching your keywords, then you can put some variation of this in your site.

For example if you are trying to talk about the quality of various language software, and the keywords you found to be easy to optimize was,

language software reviews

then you may want to put this in your domain name

languagesoftwarereviews. (org, net, com, biz, etc)

The biz, com, net, etc. really has little impact when all the aspects, of content, keywords, backlinks etc. are combined in your website.

Reasoning being that .biz will probably not be the keyword you are trying to optimize, but the keyword you research, i.e. in the above example with language software reviews

I hope this helps,

Oh god, I remember a client (dentist in CO) who for some reason owned a .bz. .bz is the TLD for Belize. We tried to explain to him numerous times why he should own a .com, but I don't think he ever got it.
