Top 10 Netbooks

I just bought an Asus EeePC and love it! I also bought some extra RAM for like $25 and it was a cinch to add. Considering the whole thing cost me under $400 and I only use it on the road or in meetings outside the office its fantastic. Battery life is also like 7-8 hours which rocks.

Stanley says these get really hot. Is that your experience?
I can't decide between this one and the Samsung NC10.

i just picked up the Hp Mini. So far so good. The main reason I choose that one over the others was the keyboard size. Its the only one I could type on well.

I bought the first EEEPC that came out with linux xD

Wished I waited until the later generations ... bah.

Don't feel bad. If a bunch of people like yourself hadn't, they probably would have considered it a flop. Someone has to bite the early adopter bullet.

The heat thing doesn't seem to be a problem with the Acer although that could be because it only has like a 2 hour battery life if you are hitting the hard drive a lot with MS Office. There is an addon battery but I haven't tried it, it's damn near as much as the computer, I think.

I'm getting an Asus EEE PC 1000HE, shit is cash. The 9 hours battery life was the deal breaker for me. Plus it's like $500. Heh.

I'm waiting for a 7"-8" convertible tablet device. If I need anything larger, I'll use a real notebook/laptop.

Prices over here are faaar too steep for the netbooks.
Had one of a friend to play with for a week and it cured me.

Keyboard and screen too small, the handling felt sluggish and for just 150$ more I get a full screen, full tilt laptop.

So no netbook for me, unless I get a job that really involves LOADS of traveling.

As it is, I don't even need a laptop.

Spent last 6 weeks or so lugging a 1000H around SE Asia. Solid little workhouse, even survived getting doused by a leaky A/C one night. WiFi worked well too, even in marginal areas.

I'm thinking about picking up a net book. I'm pretty sure I've seen some of you rave about Asus models. Does anybody have any experience with Dell models?

+rep My bro has been talking about getting a netbook for like three months, it's getting annoying. So I just got him the first one pictured there from Amazon and shipped it off. I'll let you guys know if it lives up to the hype.

I have an ultra portable laptop so don't see the use. But it's perfect for that huge market that will never part with +$700 for a reg laptop. He's never owned a laptop but he does see a need for light computing and internet on the go.

The netbooks are now equipping some of the least savvy with on-the-go internet, and that's just total unadulterated win for IM. Whereas light computing was just a desktop ritual at night for this market, you're going to see every tom, dick and harry whipping out netbooks 24/7 now.

I wonder why nobody has made a good looking netbook yet. Those all look like 90s bulky Acers in miniature size. I have Acer Aspire One and I have to say that I didn't find much use for it. I think for meetings it would be good but I'll just wait for Apple's netbook because of easier syncing. I really don't see the benefit opposed to my Macbook unless syncing is super easy & automated. And of course because netbooks and my Acer is so damn slow, it's only good for surfing and writing :(
