Decisions, decisions. Can't decide whether to go with the hosted version or the self hosted version? I'm not very techie so would I have a problem with the self hosted version? I would appreciate any comments.

Also, I'm going to use Wordpress. Should it be uploaded to the root directory on my host or elsewhere? Or does it really matter. Gonna install using Fantastico Deluxe.

It really sucks trying to ask intelligent questions when you're too stupid know what to ask.

I'm really gonna hate being associated with these dumbass questions six months from now, but I have no experience with dealing with a web host server. I have managed to open an account with Hostgator and register a domain, but now I'm in a newbie fog. :sadcrying4:

Thanks in advance

go with the self-hosted version first. it's pretty simple - just takes a few days of use to get used to it.

ps, lot's of people started where you are. there's no shame in being a beginner.

If you're willing to learn, I recommend going with the self-hosted version. Sooner or later you're going to have to get a bit "techie" to do certain things in this industry, unless you make enough friends or have enough money to have them holding your hands, so why not start now?

If you're as stupid as you say, which I doubt you are, just go with the hosted version.

Alright, it looks the prevailing opinion is to go with the self hosted version. Now I just need to find the instructions. I'll let you know if I hit any bumps in the road.

Thanks :smilie_weihn_winki:

I need someone to help me out with Prosper202 and Hostgator.

I uploaded Prosepr202 to Hostgator and according to the instructions "it should prompt you to begin the self-installation" . I didn't get a prompt.

Now what do I do?

I'm gonna learn this if it kills me.

If I remember correctly, you're suppose to create a mysql database in your cpanel. After that, change the config file to match the username, database name, and password to match the one you created in cpanel.

The struggle continues

Tasks that I have performed since yesterday

1. Created a new database.
2. On my computer in Prosper202 files changed the info in the "config_sample.php" file
and saved it as "config.php".
3. Deleted the "config_sample.php" file.
4. Changed the "functions_install.php" file as instructed on this blog
Installing Prosper202 on Hostgator - BlueLayerMedia Blog
5. Uploaded all the changed files to the root of my hostgator account overwriting the old files.

With all that done......When I enter my url I get the Hostgator getting started page. Drat the luck!

Any more ideas? I'm learning and am going to fight my way through this.

Thanks in Advance
