Question to you SEO/SERP guys:

I had extended downtime this week (~28 hours) and since I'm back online my traffic is basically half of what it was. Is this some kind of fucked up Google penalty or am I just being paranoid? And if the former, how long do such penalties last?

FUCK!

Maybe you got unlucky and google crawled your site while the server was down ? I know from some examples that this kind of stuff usually results in rankings drops, so you might got hit by this.

If you have extended downtime try and have some sort of temporary 307 maintenance page if it's that important to you! Then the serps should be more lenient.

If the sites a few years old you'll probably find you regain your terms in a few days.

Punishment for downtime can last up to four weeks in my experience. After that, everything should return to normal.
