Twitter joke led to police arrest and airport life ban.

I once went to the airport wearing a t-shirt that said, "I'm a bomb technician. If you see me running try to keep up." I was also the owner of a conspicuous red mohican at the time. Needlesss to say my friend made me wear a jacket, because he thought we wouldn't fly.

It's typical British bollocks. It's crap like this that makes me rebel more and more. I can't stand being told what to do and the more they tell me how to act, think and behave the more rules i want to break. It's pathetic.

I'm also embarrassed to live within the UK when you see what a sorry state the government/populace relationship is in, thanks of course to the pathetic over enforcing of "law" and the dickhead Tony Blair. Fuck me i'd love to bomb that cunt. :D

Im from Doncaster!

I couldn't give a shit what he tweeted, even if he said it whilst i was IN the airport ..!

I allways have fucked up thoughts, doesn't mean im gunna do what im thinking .. even the president has fucked up thoughts, everyone does ... they say they have top class security, but they are shit scare of A FUCKING TWEET!

Its a load of bollocks

Huh?

Probably close to what happened. I think it's known as groupthink.

In this instance, it's not so much the government (top-down) as it is the individuals working for the government.

Nobody simply wants to take on the responsibility of "not doing everything they could", just for the sake of covering their own ass.

Somebody called in and complained about it. After that point, no single official wanted to risk his career and stop the process citing that it's obviously no big deal.

Imagine yourself being the officer/agent in whatever department getting a complaint about that tweet. Are you going to risk your career over some jackass stranger even though it's obvious to you that the threat is not real or will you do the safe (for yourself) thing and pass it higher up? So you pass it up in hopes that someone else will deal with it.

And this cycle repeats on every level.

If you think that's bad, you have no idea how bad things get when shit really moves to the "next level" -- when the government employees begin to actually fear for their own life and freedom if they don't act as swiftly and decisively as the can. That's when the real bad stuff start to happen. Hopefully, it won't happen to the USA, because at that point there won't be turning back.

And all the people that whine about the police state will see what a real police state looks like.

The Vikram Buddhi case is very interesting. I thought paying someone to kill someone else is not protected by freedom of speech. But even encouraging terrorism is.

For example, if I said thieves are vermins and should be exterminated, can I go to jail?

POST OF THE YEAR. Can I add this to my Signatures as Like those of Sumit's "Good Luck Bros ones" LMAO :D.

Seriously folks. Some guy that support terrorism against american eat dinner with George Bush. US has been different since the last time I was there.

If the guy tweeted on the airport's own twitter page (since I noticed a few business and airports do post updates to their own twitter account), then the comment could be treated like a threat no different than a phone call or letter being sent to them.

Also far as any free speech comments... last I checked the UK wasn't quite identical as the US on that 'freedom'. But course the Patriot Act over here burns that down either way when they feel it needed.

Over reaction? Possibly - hear out my reasoning.

If you don't have the judgement not to say that on twitter, you might not have the judgement to actually do it.

I think he should have been arrested, and throughly investigated....but if he came back clean slapped on the wrist.

I agree, he shouldn't be banned for life from an airport because of one tweet. I thought our country had freedom of speech :O. Evidently now :(

No one called in and complained about it. Authorities constantly monitor internet communications mediums for shit like this. If you were to yell that out in the airport you'd be banned for life just the same. Yelling it out to hundreds or thousands of people on the internet isn't looked at as being much different.

To them it isn't much different.
If someone in real life said gtfo and show me your boobs I would either get a higher up or file sexual harrassment.

Here is different. It's just jokes, online with no face behind them.

If the government is reacting so violently to this, it is they who need to be charged for terrorizing their own people. The Internet should be one place we can let out imaginations run free.

I've said many things on it I'd never say offline.

Thats right. I dont think it should have been like this. Maybe someday you save an email draft saying you gonna kill someone in email box and FBI will sneak into your email box and take you in for questioning. LMAO.

In my opinion its Lame.

Curious why your online conduct should be any different than your offline? Kinda like if you were being a racist mofo online, you justify it with "It's online... doesn't count." :p

There are kids online who don't know legal shit. With this type of incident happening .. FBI or Police should be ready for tons of more like these. So long with the precautions taken.

Crazy man, people need to take this shit seriously because at this point the governments aren't going to try and figure out who is just bitching and who is actually making a true claim. They need to take any statements like that full fledged.

sup guys?

Only government-approved terrorist acts are allowed to happen on US or US occupied soil.

We don't like that surprise bomb shit, we like to know where the fire is going to hit so people of importance can make sure they aren't there when it happens.

Everybody isnt 25+ Online. There are millions of teenagers .. even 9 years old. Government need to think over this not ppl.

Yea. Exactly. Common people are targeted. None of the famous ever die.

I think you fail to realize the level of transparency in online communications. People are no longer random identities online, if you think you have privacy or anonymity on services like twitter or facebook you are mostly mistaken.

There are steps you can pro-actively take to avoid this, but most people who use these social communications platforms do so to keep in touch with friends, family and associates.

You can complain about it all you like, but it's not going to change the reality of our day and age.

They didn't really need to ban him. Just give him a good scare session...
