I straight up jacked this from the Misc, but it needed to be done. The stereotype is strong in this one....but in so many ways it couldnt be more real-life.

about an hour out of town there used to be an abandoned quarry with a really big "pit" that all the hicks talked about

You forgot the "bye/bi/bie" that would undoubtedly come at the end of that...and every other sentence.
 
Seems like American & Canadian hicks are two different types of people. The former are just that, hicks, while the latter seem to be friendly, reasonable people.
