FACTA is starting to affect some banks over here in Thailand already, too.

My bank's fine, but GeoMark pointed me to this poor bastard up in CM:

TL;DR: Americans opening bank account in Thailand now told to fuck off... Even when rules say it's fine.

We knew that this was happening in Switzerland & Singapore, but FACTA hitting thailand really sucks for me, because you know it isn't going to stop with 1 or 2 banks. It must be harder on my bank to keep me already... So Chile's starting to look better and better to me by the minute.

Why would Chile be any different as far as FATCA is concerned? If you did a little more homework, you would have realized that FATCA exempts state owned banks from having to comply.

Therefore I suggest banking with state owned Thai banks only.

Also there's no reason why you can't have your bank account in another jurisdiction outside of Thailand.
