UAW announces plans to fuck over..ahem..try to unionize foreign automakers in US

yes because people working a drill press sure deserve $140,000 in salary and benefits, as well as 30-and-out retirement benefits, right? 30 and out pensions are one of the biggest scams purported by unions.

Work for 30 years at the company and you get full salary retirement and full benefits retirement no matter what. Started working at age 18? You can retire at full salary at 48.

Excuse my ignorance, so you're basically saying that person who started working at age 18 will get paid full salary by the COMPANY until they're dead?

In many negotiated contracts, yes. Some are 80% of salary, but many are 100% + full benefits...AND you receive social security when you come of age for that.

And then the UAW will try to say it's not their fault so much manufacturing is leaving the US.

Unions make companies go bankrupt. The only reason these car companies haven't is because they have friends in the government who covered their losses with taxpayer money.

Totally aside, but the only union I support is the teacher union down here in Texas. It's totally powerless in state government although I can't speak for it nationally, but being a member means I get free legal protection if/when I get sued by little Johnny's parents someday for damaging his fragile self esteem. :)

Other than this level of protection, I'm not sure unions are necessary for anything other than protection from natural selection.

Texas sounds like they have the right idea, as usual.

Teachers unions up north are awful. In NY you can't be fired even for sexual harassment, it has to go through the union's arbitration process and their steps first; all the while, the offending teacher is taken out of the classroom and placed in a building with no students, where they must stay during normal class hours - but read magazines, use the internet, etc. All while receiving full pay and benefits.

In NJ the teachers union is brutal too. They turned down a 5% contribution to healthcare benefits, and as a result hundreds of teachers were laid off. A leader in the NJ teachers union sent around a mass email to people asking for them to pray for the death of Gov. Christie. Wtf?
