So today I get an email that I was past due 30 days, and all my data (sites/mysql data ..) on my server has been deleted. Oh, I'll have to re-upload it if I want to see my sites again.

WOW, what a crock of shit. I paid my invoice for November, and since there system did not pick it up, all of my data is deleted. (even sent them 2 emails stating it was sent)

They do not care, not taking any responsibility, no sympathy whatsoever that they deleted pretty much what I survive and pay the bills with.

I gotta busy day a head of me. This is bullshit. </rant>

<post hosting horror stories here>

That blows, GoDaddy just dumped one of my sites a couple of weeks ago with no notice what so ever. They just pulled the plug. They really don't give two shits if a person is making a living or not. For some reason the site was creating to many threads or something like that and overloading the server.

Rather than picking up the phone or at the very least sending out an email they just dump it and let you figure it out and deal with it at your own pace.

Pricks!

I have been thinking about moving my main sites to my server here and I just need a little push. The only thing holding me up is a lunix install. I have a windows server right now..

Sorry man!

i think im gonna go backup everything right now

umm... You guys don't take backups and run sites that "pay the bills" on shared servers? Also, always check to make sure your invoice is marked as "paid" in the provider's billing system, otherwise you didn't pay. PayPal's IPN service is a piece of shit and times out about 1% of the time, so the provider is never notified.

yeh lol paypal IPN sux sometimes. thnx for replies

I actually have a couple of my most important sites on two servers. That way if anything stupid happens, I can just switch the DNS.

i have it take a snapshot/backup every night + send it to amazon s3.. another script checks to see if the site services are ever down.. if so then it fires up a ec2 using the backup and voila.. automated (and free using the new 'free tier' that amazon offers) backup + uptime protection.

get a better vps host... linode would never hurt ya like that. :P

whoa thanks for the useful info guys, definetly going to be using some sort of backup from now on...

thought you guys would like this ...so I go into my domain registrar and to change NS settings ...I see my prior employer put his name and contact info on all my domains! and changed my acc. information.

What an asshole.

hacked into my acc through my email, FML

all changed back, and private back on, so sick of ppl tryin to take advantage of me it's bullshit. Watch your backs, some assholes out there.

Things happen guys.. I used a VPS with webbycart rsync. Now using stablehost - they give backups.. hope this helps

There are actually pretty good small scale sites that care about clients than some of the big guys..
