#1 Fuck all ya'll who think you know what you're talking about by calling me "un-American" or implying that I must be discharged or was never in. For the record I'm about to hit 6 years in, I was in basic when Iraq started and have been there 3 times (all voluntarily) - I had the option to get out this month, guess what? I'm still in cause I love my job and my country. Plus I'm damn good at what I do - I could get out and make at LEAST double what I'm making now in the civilian sector - but I chose not to. So put a sock in it.

#2 In response to the "is anything he said less than what you went through in basic training?" Yeah I had similar things thrown in my face at basic training, but that was by someone from my country that was shaping me into the individual I am today - not someone from another country who I resented for being there in the first place. I don't disagree that harsh words are necessary in the military - I just think this guy crossed the line, personal opinion and nothing more. Perhaps I'm just more polite than the average military guy.

#3 Popeye. "We have the most professional and merciful armed forces on earth. I can't believe someone with the name "airforcematt" wouldn't realize this."
Yes. We do, and I do realize that. So STFU and stop putting words in my mouth plzthxbye.

Fair enough, I wasn't calling you out (about the basic training comments). I just didn't think it was all that bad from my personal perspective. Getting kicked in the teeth is part of training and that's what I'm assuming this clip is a piece of. Training Iraqi police to handle their own shit.

Thanks for your service Matt.

My pleasure :) - thanks for your service when you were in.

This is only tough/rookie talk in army which is used to expose soldiers to discipline and discomfort. In army, you are a machine. It's best for the army that you don't have any personality or any other values in life and just do what you are told because that is the most efficient way of solving things. The one way to avoid this mental abuse is complete submission. Only those who have not served in military probably found this amusing.

Here's how they do it in russia:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdpglfsK4_A]YouTube - Russian army[/ame]

That's why probably that guy in the OP video laughed, maybe he was serving the military under saddam's regime, which is vicious almost as russian.

So where are you stationed / what do you do?

I spent the first 5 years in Tucson AZ.

Currently I'm at what is going to be the most laid back assignment of my career - I'm currently the AFA (air force advisor) to a air national guard unit. I'm the active duty Subject Matter Expert in tactical networking systems and RF data link's.

We test and evaluate new command and control systems, just fielded a new one that will allow us to bring home an entire squadron of my friends from Iraq and replace them with about half as many people in a more friendly "undisclosed country in southwest asia"

x Here's how they do it in russia:
LOL, fuck russia. And fuck Iraq.

Obviouly the US Solider in this video just wants to get the fuck home. He may or may not give a shit about Iraq's well-being but he just wants the police to man-up, dump the militia's and start caring about Iraq's future as a country so he can get back to a much better one.

And oh, Airfocematt, thank you for your service to this country, and your voluntary missions to Iraq. I mean that 100% sincerely.

And oh BB_wolfe, thank you for your service to this forum. And more importantly this country.

airforcematt:

Thank you for your service, maturity and balanced outlook.

For those of you here obviously confused about the world opinion of America, do yourself a favor and Google search "who is the biggest threat to world peace". Hint: It's not Iran and it's not North Korea.

Now regarding the video.

First and foremost, Americas foreign polcy is seriously fucked up. We have our nose stuck up every countries ass and we should be more concerned with protecting our own borders and our own economy (especially the way things are looking now).

Secondly, we shouldn't even be over there. There's a serious fucking problem with the Iraqi police, I've known this before watching this video. They're crooked, dumb as rocks, and all have manginas. There's no problem with the way that guy acted, war is serious shit and when you're allies are a bunch of donkeys I'm sure it can get pretty frustrating.

Let them figure out their own infighting problems, and if they want to go take a lunch break during a firefight then they're not even worth it (an entirely different video). This simply isn't Americas concern.

And oh BB_wolfe, thank you for your service to this forum. And more importantly this country.

I'm a little too hung over to really analyze what this means, but I make no apologies for choosing not to serve in the military.

I also make no apologies for the suffering of the arabs in the middle east. Each time I think something in America is fucked and unchangeable, all I have to do is think Sam Adams, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin, John Adams, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, William Penn, and George Washington. They were taxed, brutalized by George's soldiers, and yet still had the balls to stand up and form this great country, shedding blood and risking the gallows the entire way. They did it because no one else would do it for them.

Now I ask you how it is possible that less than 3 million colonials could drive out a tough army like Britian's and form a country, then 200 years LATER we have 26 million arabs who can't fucking do the same with an insurgency? Instead of sending troops, we should send an Arabic translation of American History 1600-2009.

I'm all for the army/navy/marines/AF/CG/NG, and if Matt is in the service, then HU-RAH I'm gonna support him too, but FUCK it annoys the hell out of me when people think the US military is some bloodthirsty social rapist.

Fuck what the rest of the world thinks, seriously. There are 6+ billion people on this planet, not everyone is gonna get along.

well my brother was in baghdad for over a year and worked with the iraqi police and agrees that they are a peice of shit ... im gonna go with him.. not some airforce fagoot

Lol - AGAIN stop putting words in my mouth. Look back and you'll see I never said anything good about the iraqi police either, they do need to man up - after all it's their country. I just disagree with this soldier's particular method of "motivating" them. (so why the personal attack?)

Thanks to all of you who have thanked me for my service, you guys have no idea how much that means to us when someone takes the time to say thank you.

(so why the personal attack?)

Because some of us were fucking hammered and in front of a keyboard! I acknowledge that you disagree with the soldier and I understand your point. I'd probably feel the same way if I walked a mile in your shoes.

I understand his point and I think he needs to just STFU.

My father was 82nd and 101st airborne, brother was 82nd airborne, stepson is now in 82nd airborne, I was Navy on the USS Iwo Jima (Marine helicopter carrier), and I have a brother that is a Lt Col in the Air Force now.

The Air Force gives out medals for tying your shoes and combing your hair..

While he was sitting in his air base in Iraq, these men were out prowling the streets getting shot at and killed and maimed. He obviously has no fucking idea.

And then he brags about what a cushy job he has..

Wanna thank somebody for their service? Thank the grunt that had both of his legs blown off.. not some fucking air force puke..

By all means - the guys that have been there where the rubber meets the road deserve a HELL of a lot more thanks than I do.

Again though - stop making assumptions about how I feel/think. I am fully aware of the things that my friends in the Army/Marines have had to go through, those guys are the true heroes of this war, I'm just happy to have played a part to get them air cover on time when they need it.

As far as "bragging" about my laid back job now, hell yes I'm going to brag about it - it's awesome. Will this job keep me from going back to the desert if they need me? Nope. Has this job provided me with new skills that expand my usefulness to the joint fight? Yep.

Thank your family for their service from me.

Nobody gives a shit about how you feel/think.
"Joint Fight" is Air Force Speak.. what a bunch of shit.. The Air Force doesn't fight..

I've known Navy Seals (on my ship) that would go out and get in knife fights in bars on liberty overseas.. they did that shit for fun.. How politically correct is that? Sharpened their skills for the "Joint Fight".. lol

Dude.. shut the fuck up.. You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.
You are way out of your depth.

And oh BB_wolfe, thank you for your service to this forum. And more importantly this country.

You want to thank someone for service, give a nod to guerilla & popeye for their eloquent arguments on a daily basis about the stuff that's truly important to this country. I'm sure they spread the good word throughout their "brick and mortar" acquaintances as well ... that's what doing your country a service is all about.

bb_'s right in most of what he says, no doubt. The point just doesn't always get across because he's so rough around the edges ... which brings me to my point.

Everyone should understand that different things motivate different people in different ways. Some respond to fear/anger, some to eternal life, some to 72 virgins & others to money.

If the ground troups were serious about getting the iraqi military/police up to par, they would do some serious psychobabble stuff and figure out what really motivates these guys. You can't go cussing, bitching and screaming and expect to get your desired results regardless of the circumstance. Sure the guys pissed for risking his life there, I don't blame him. But if he really wanted to fix the problem, he should try a different approach.

As a member of this forum, I assume that most people here solve problems with their head. Believe it or not, this is a good solution to the rest of life's issues too.

Wanna thank somebody for their service? Thank the grunt that had both of his legs blown off.. not some fucking air force puke..

Wow, you're a tool.

So let me get this straight ... you think some corn fed, 80 IQ, meat puppet deserves more credit than the soldiers of the most awesome fighting machine on the earth because he was on ground patrol and (what a surprise) got hurt? Credit goes to both equally, even though the Air Force is much more fearsome (IMO).

And then you discount the efforts of the different branches of the military in a joint fight. Do you not remember the first few days of Iraq when we were really kicking some ass? Am I wrong or was that not the air force reigning distruction from the sky?

You are wrong..
The most awesome fighting machine in the world is the US Navy, not the Air Force. That was mostly the Navy raining hell on Iraq.. tomahawk cruise missiles carrier based bombing sorties.

My brother was doing refueling over Iraq in a tanker for the Air Force.. he could see the surface to air missles being shot at him but he was too high for them to reach.. after the initial wonderment, he never felt in danger..

One Carrier battle group (including subs) could level the entire country of, say, Iran, in less than, say, an hour..
I wouldn't give as much credit to the Navy (although I was in the Nav) as I do to the grunts..

- I don't know who you are.. but like Matt.. you have no idea wtf you are talking about. You obviously have no idea what fighting is about..

lol my cousin is in the airforce... i saw pictures on his myspace.. theytake pictures of themselves all dressed up w/ guns and shit in their barracks trying to look badass.
