Verizon Smart Phones

I'm currently locked into my Verizon phone plan, but I've figured it's about time to get a smart phone (so no iPhone or subsidized phones for me). Any recommendations on a good Verzion smart phone to get, preferably something that has the ability for good web rendering (true to design, rather than a mobile bastardization) and something that's readily available new on eBay for less than the no-contract Verizon cost.

johu: I'm still amazed at how robust my XDA-II is, some 6 years after it hit the market and dozen or so times hitting the floor of a club and getting kicked around a bit. That said, being WM5, it's not compatible with a lot of current windows mobile apps.
I'm about to get my hands on an HD-Touch Pro, because it looked pretty fucking sweet, and there's a metric arse tonne of useful apps for WM6. It also runs old school console emulators really nicely.
 
I hated the HTC things (windows mobile), loving my iphone, looking forward to the pre.

Blackberrys are expensive outright.

Might look at the Nokia E71 or N71 or something. New qwerty keyboard. Cheap outright price usually.
 
All verizon smartphones suck so far. The internet rendering on the curve is weak at best. I'm in the same boat as you and CANNOT find a verizon phone i like. I was thinking about jumping ship to ATT to get the iphone but their reception sucks. I borrowed someones phone and it was dropped call after dropped call.
 
Verizon is hopefully getting a blackberry that is basically a newer version of the bold that is on Att. I personally have a bold and think it is the best phone out there, i would find out when they are getting the new one and wait for that.
 
Curve, about as straight forward as it gets. Won't leave Verizon, they are rock solid in terms of reception/service.
 
The new verizon blackberry wont be out till like august at earliest if you're willing to wait that long. Verizon is very slow to release phones. And re: verizon iphone, if they're in talks about contracts at this point, don't expect to be able to hold one in your hand for at least a year and a half to two years.
