Well, looks like the Curve wins on recommendations here. Since I won't be up for a discounted phone until August, and my contract isn't up until December, I can always get a newer phone at a later point, renew my contract, and sell my old one on eBay (where I plan to buy it, in the first place). Thanks to everyone who provided useful feedback here!
 
Has anyone used the LG Dare? I've been looking at that phone since it seems to have a normal web browser on it. I don't need all the applications and frills of a Blackberry or a Windows mobile OS phone, and the LG Dare seems to do what I need online. I looked into getting a Blackberry and putting Opera Mini on it, but apparently Verizon locks down the ability to install other browsers on the phone.

No, Verizon does not lock down the ability to install other browsers on your phone. I have the Curve right now and just last week I ditched Opera Mini for a new browser called BOLT. I think is much better than Opera Mini, no more zooming in and out of every web page.

Also Verizon will be launching the Blackberry Tour, Google Android, Palm Pre, and Storm II within the next 6 months. The Tour is rumored to be out the 2nd week of July, I will probably be upgrading to this when it comes out.

Hmm, I guess the following line on Opera Mini's site is out of date (which would make sense since ATT is still referred to as Cingular on the page):
Note to North-American users

Opera Mini is available to all Sprint and Cingular customers. Availability for T-Mobile customers is dependent on the subscription plan. BREW-enabled phones, including Verizon, are currently not supported.

Thanks for the tip about BOLT - I just ordered a Curve, and I'll be putting BOLT on it as soon as I can. I just need something to last me through the end of my contract in December, and then I can move to an iPhone or any new cell phone.
 
Opera Mini != Opera Mobile

Opera Mini does all the processing on Opera's servers and sends the results to the phone to view it.. Opera Mobile does everything on the phone itself and is a much better browser. Get your terms right people!
