Video affiliate programs

we at ShareASale have mad videos from a majority of merchants.. plus we even have the option for you to upload your own videos into a non-branded player with your tracking code embedded

Very true - back when I had a day job, I uploaded over 100 videos for Vat19.com's affiliate program. Back then, not many other merchants had videos but that has changed a bit since then.

Having seen conversion stats before and after videos on the merchant side, I can say that they definitely improve conversions - often more than double what the rate was without the video. The effect is much smaller when there's no text to accompany the video, though.

on point... i've seen conversions increase 3-4 times higher than a standard banner/graphic. Plus it adds more substance to your site rather than some lame ol' flashing banner *CLICK ME CLICK ME*

As for video, I have to think that keeping the length short is the best idea. Anyone have experience with what type of video works best?

Depends on the product and the type of video you're going for. The company I worked at routinely did 1-3 minute videos and a lot of marketing people said that was way too long, but it worked really well and customers were constantly calling and writing to comment on them. The production quality was high, though, and the videos were generally a little funny (go to Vat19.com to see what I mean).

If you're doing amateur videos on your own and you're going to be doing it more off-the-cuff, I would guess you'd want to go much shorter than that. People aren't going to want to watch 10 minutes of you fumbling over a product review (unless you're attractive and only partially dressed).

I would say only go longer if you absolutely have to for credibility - cases where you literally need several minutes to go over all the differences in features between one brand and another, or cases where user engagement is really high and they want to see that you know what you're competent within that field.
