Vietnam vs Thailand for online people

Awesome thread. Saigon sounds like a step up from Cambodia. That article has sold me. Liking the sound of the 3 month visas, low cost of living, motorbike transportation and bakeries.
I've been in Manila for 18 months and sick of it now. Dislike the food, traffic (cars) and the culture is really outdated- lack of manners and open mindedness. I've never felt in danger here but the GF always makes me lock taxi doors as people will open them and grab your phone or jewellery (3 cases on the news yesterday). There is one decent part of Manila called The Fort but prices jump up. Some very nice beaches to live by though if you don't mind slow internet connections.
We are considering either Palawan which is away from the fault lines and close to good beaches or something like Cambodia/Thailand/Vietnam. Vietnam is now winning as Thailand sounds like a pain for visas and I've seen some dodgy shit in Cambodia.

Good to know, my intuition for the vibe of a place isn't that far off.
Palawan is really beautiful. The El Nido area is probably the most beautiful place I have been to in SEA.
Palawan is a great place to visit, but I would think twice before moving there. The place just seems too slow with not much to do.
On my last visit, they opened an SM Mall in Puerto Princesa. So, you can now catch Western movies and such, but besides that there doesn't seem like there is much to do in Puerto Princesa.
I would also imagine that internet and power are going to be bigger problems in Palawan than in Manila - read: a lot more blackouts and slow internet.
Seems there a lot of IM types who setup in Cebu. It is a much larger city than Puerto Princesa, Palawan with all of the advantages and disadvantages that come along with it. There are also lots of great beaches near by and you have the added bonus of living near an international airport.
