Just got the show on torrent. I am very positively surprised at how good the show is, both in terms of entertaining and for being historically accurate. This is definitely the best and most accurate depiction of Viking life, with what I judge to be quite accurate sets, clothing, weapons, location and ships. Only thing not quite right is that the Earl is shown as an authoritarian ruler, when Viking society was in essence a democratic anarchy of sorts (those interested should read this from Mises.org)

Vikings is about the viking hero and myth Ragnar Lodbrok (Lothbrok in the show), the great Viking hero who myth say invaded England. The show begins with sailing west and attacking the monestary of Lindisfarne, the first written account of what is known as Viking raids later on.

In any case, this is a great show, and anyone with an interest or heritage from northern european countries will likely enjoy it quite a lot. It has an 8.5 rating on IMDB just to say I am not alone in thinking it is great.

It also has some amazing footage from Western Norway which is one of the most beatiful and awe inspiring places in the world. The only thing lacking is some HBO style nudity, but that is probably to appeal to american christian hangups.

i watched the first one when it came out, I liked it, but I forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me. Will queue.

Liked the first half of the series. Hated the second half. Just kept getting worse for me.

What didn't you like about it?

Watched it quite a while ago so can't remember it that well.

Characters just got irritating to watch, especially the main guy (can't remember his name). Nothing worse than getting annoyed by the main character. His facial expressions were always exactly the same regardless of what was happening.

I dunno.. I enjoyed it until their second raid on England. After the "twist" in the middle of the series, just didn't like it afterwards.

Yeah, he does lack in facial expressions I agree and I noticed that myself, but I don't think it ruins the series in any way. The rest of the cast is pretty good. The actor playing the earl is very good and Ragnar's (hero) wife is also good. So are many of the supporting cast.

The series put a lot of its focus on their religions. By the end, The friar and Ragnar had sort of an uneasy respect for each other's religion. Even though Ragnar had ulterior motives in wanting to understand Christianity.

I like the show a lot. The only thing that bothers me is the use of English language. You really have to suspend your belief when both the British and the Vikings both speak English yet cannot communicate with one another.

Except the one British guy who speaks Norse which is kind of odd since both the English and Vikings never really had any contact according to the show before Ragnar took them there.

But other than that, love it.
