Vikings - who is watching?

Answers in blood was a cool episode. Is time skip bjorn from the first hunger games? I feel like I've seen him before.

I like the show a lot. The only thing that bothers me is the use of English language. You really have to suspend your belief when both the British and the Vikings both speak English yet cannot communicate with one another.

Except the one British guy who speaks Norse which is kind of odd since both the English and Vikings never really had any contact according to the show before Ragnar took them there.

But other than that, love it.

The monk traveled to mainland Europe where Charlemagne ruled. Now France/Germany/Italy.

Charlemagne at one time attempted to push into Denmark not all that far from where this story takes place. So it would make sense that he could have learned Norse if he stayed in the northern part of Frankish empire. There were Norse living all over the norther part of europe during this time anyway.

The English thing is kinda awkward though.

The show kind of emplies that Ragnar is the real innovator here, but prior to his time, the Vikings would be traveling all over. Iceland was only a weeks travel from Norway, Greenland a couple days more. Getting to England wasn't a big deal, but perhaps not that many where doing this level of sailing. Their geography made them all quite isolated so innovation was likely slow to spread.

Where Ragnar really sticks out was that he went the farthest in Europe during his time. They eventually went all the way to the south of France through the Mediterranean. His son would go even farther.

The show has a lot of potential from here.

....I should stop watching documentaries on youtube.
