Were the Ainu people of Japan actually white?

Read the article I linked teatree.

The scientist quoted specifically states the japanese scientists are not trustworthy if they were the one's to do the DNA testing.

Do you really think they'd like it if their famous samurai were in fact white?

I really don't care enough to look up your DNA claims now, I will do it later, but it is obvious from looking at those pictures that those people are not asians. They look distinctively white (despite mixing with other populations).

^^^

I read the article, and all the guy is saying is that the Samurai cult probably started with the Ainu and not the Japanese, which may be true.

However you are saying something different - that the Ainu are Europeans - and the article doesn't support that.

Here's the last two paragraphs of the article:

These differences in the Ainu, as well as their lighter skin color, gave rise to a belief that they could well be related to Caucasians. In some histories, the Ainu are described as proto-Caucasoid people, a group that split off from the white race so early that not all the characteristics of the race had yet developed.

But Dr. Brace said the analysis of ancient and modern Ainu skeletons did not support such a relationship. The study did show that their presumed ancestors, the Jomon, however, shared some intriguing physicial similarities, perhaps because of common origins, to the people of Polynesia and Micronesia.

In other words, Dr Brace is saying that his analysis of ancient and modern Ainu skeletons does not support the "belief" that the Ainu are Europeans! And they might be related to the Polynesians and Micronesians instead.

And the DNA evidence also shows that they are not Europeans.

I get that you admire the Japanese and Ainu - but am struggling to understand why you are so desperate for them to be Europeans. What's wrong with admiring them as Asians (which is what they are?)

Rusvik, I see that you're working so hard to find caucasian origins for Japanese people, but what about your beloved arab muslims? Don't you think that some of them look white? Or does your anti-muslim self automatically refuses to admit any DNA similarity with these guys? :)

^ I need names if we are going to discuss ethnicity. As you may know, there are many ethnicities around the current mediteranean middle east that isn't Arab but belongs to the same proto-european tribes or got mixed up over the years.

Most of the people you posted seem to be of such heritage.

Why are you so terrified of the prospect that non-white people have some pretty amazing achievements under their belt as well?

And why are you living in Thailand? It must be hell for you with all the Thais around, and everything.

Don't take everything so seriously. I find history and anthropology interesting in general.

Besides, I very much admire the japanese, thais and many other cultures. I also like a good argument when I'm procastinating.

Some of those people are from Lebanon, Syria, Iran. Others are from Northern Africa (Algeria, Tunisia). Some of these countries have been colonized by the Romans, Spanish, French, Arabs, Turks, etc... and they all mixed up with the existing tribes like the Berbers who were already living there. The result is people referenced to as "Arabs" in the media, yet their genealogical background is so much more complex...

The point is, there is no such thing today as pure Arab, or pure French, or pure Spanish, etc... races got mixed up, especially in the Mediterranean basin like you mentioned. Do a DNA test yourself and you'll probably find origins you didn't expect...

Dicks have been getting in foreign vaginas for centuries. Only in remote areas/tribes can you still find somewhat of a pure ethnicity.

This is why, my friend, racism is ridiculous and doesn't make sense anymore. This whole discussion just reminded me of this KKK dude that wanted to create an all-white city in North Dakota. He went to a talk show and they did a DNA test on him... turns he was 14% negro. Watch his reaction...

And hey Rusvik, the second season of the Vikings show starts this week.

That is good news. Walking Dead turned into a soap opera long ago and HBO pulled Hello Ladies for some reason.

Any news on which part of the viking sagas they will take on this time around? The first season dealt with the rise of vikings in the form of Ragnar Lodbrok, but there are many more interesting and probably more historically true stories to tell.

Personally, I'd like to see them take on the Varangian guard, rise of the Normanns and of course the conquest of England which is probably what they'll show this season.
