I think somebody had to do this, but for political correctness, or some other darned tootin' reason; it hasn't yet.

Some will say I'm being a dick, or a retard, or whatever -- but I just find the mind-numbing, moron threads to be a bit too common lately. Yes, I and others could simply ignore them and not read them, right?

Well, as many of us have learned the hard way it isn't so simple. You get drawn in by a catchy title (or seemingly interesting one) and then the sheer stupidity of the ensuing read melts your fucking brain like cheese in the toaster.

Wouldn't it make sense to have some sort of short 5-10 question test for new entries -- In an effort to cull the people who will just add mind-fuckery and whiny bullshit "I no got payed form X networx." Or in other cases rag on companies/networks that don't deserve the bad rep.

Being that this forum doesn't have paid sections, I just think it makes sense to have some entry requirements (as sites with paid sections cannot afford even to let the dipshits go).

The mods do a gr8 job, but there is only so much they can do to keep up with all this shit lately.

I should add that I'm not trolling, as I think this is a serious enough issue to have a poll/debate about.

I'm going to second this, the level of brain-numbing idiocy by some posters lately is reaching epic proportions, it's hard to weed through the minimum-wage morons living in their parent's basement furiously posting everything that comes to their little minds, grammar errors and all. Also, I realize this forum has alot of international peeps for whom English is not their first language, but a simple " can I haz write in da English werdz?" test would be nice too, just to get rid of the worst of the worst...

Stanley's had a test in the works for awhile now for new members to pass prior to posting.

I'd like to see that implemented.

Like anything though, it just comes down to time. I'm sure his own ventures are his first priority, and we all know how involved we can get in them sometimes. Maybe he'd be interested in letting a member he trusts work on it and we could get this issue settled.

I don't think it would work very well - anyone intentionally bashing a network will obviously have some knowledge of the industry because they are bashing a network intentionally to get the edge. Either that or they're truly an idiot.

Also, it would be pretty easy to google the answers to pretty much anything on the quiz that's reasonable. It would have to be all Yes/No or multiple choice because I doubt mods are going to want to review every single person who wants to join. There'd be a site up with all the answers within a few days I'd bet by someone who hates WF.

I'm not for a test really, I am for better forum moderation. Say a feature that allows a member over a few hundred posts to flag posts of those under a few hundred posts.

Unlike the "Report Post" we have now the post is automatically pulled until a Mod gives it the go ahead.

You're probably right regarding that specific issue. But a scripted, rotating set of questions I.e., ______ too dumb to be in this forum A) There B) They're C) Their -- and many other such questions.

Also adding some more moderators. There are lots of inactive moderators that are likely rolling in their bed of Acai monies most of the time.

It's great we're allowed to speak freely here, but there is enough dickrolling material amongst the semi-intelligent members. Some of these other posts just give WF a bad name when they randomly show up in Google searches and such -- or if someone who's actually intelligent comes here to browse/possibly join and gets turned off by the front page.

That's just being reactive. All of us know that once something is posted, it's probably already been crawled by Google on a high-traffic forum like this. If you are after preventing stupid noobs from giving this forum a bad name, then that is not the solution.

We need to have a proactive solution to this. That'd require some sort of filter when a thread/post is being sent into the database to have the contents of the post checked against.

Hell, I'm sure that if someone wanted to create a vBulliten module that would check a post for decent English grammar (Noez coments liek dis.) and a couple other spammy-type items, they could sell it to other vBulliten owners as well. This could probably be done by using a semantic relation database like WordNet or something.

You ever wonder how effective a simple registration question would be?

Like

"What is the sum of two and four?" and a text box next to it. Rather than (2+4 which is almost universally understood in any language).

Nah, I like to laugh at dumbasses. It makes you realize how stupid people can be (though go visit a McDonalds and you'll see the dumbest people in the world working there. It's scary really. They're making your food!).

I kind of agree but not really. It's not newbies who are the problem it's just complete retards who have no common sense. Everyone of us was a newbie at one point it doesn't make you need to be retarded. Plus not everyone here does the same stuff for business and has different views and experience which is what makes it good. So whatever the test was would preselect more people with the same skills and no new good information would flow.

See... right there, you just fucked up your only chance at being a mod. That's why you'll never be a mod, except if you made a ZenSix or IonVz forum :D (except lets not go there, you might end up canceling hosting accounts for every stupid thread posted)

The statement stands. As my first act as a mod, Popeye would be destroyed.
