for a while i saw a competitor using redirect.domainname. com, and I thought it was better to do that. but he's now switched and am curious what is best. should i just directly link to my money page or do a redirect.domainname .com?

Just do it like everybody else. As usual, see: Wikipedia, Lifehacker, insert another huge site with 2+ internal links per post etc etc. I don't know why you would want to link to a redirect instead.

initially the redirect was to GPT websites, but you make a good point. appreciate the advice!

If your money page is not your own (affiliate product promotion), do a redirect, and make the redirect page/subdomain inaccessible to search engines.

If it is your own product or site, then go direct. Redirecting is done here typically when your redirecting domain does tracking as well, so that you can track the exits/conversions properly.
