What is the best reason for having a personal blog. So others can learn from you? A way of keeping track of your journey and the progress you have made? A way to market your future sites to your fanbase? All of the above?

If there are some reasons I am missing, or if one reason is superior to another, please discuss. I am thinking of starting a blog but there are so many out there that I wanna make sure its worth it.

All of the above.
And it serves as a personal notes/links dump so I can go back and look at what I forgot.

I agree all of the above! I personally blog for myself and hope that documenting my journey to the big money online will help someone on their journey.

Personal blogs provide:
Self-encouragement (look back and see what you've accomplished and haw far you've come)
Motivation (look back at plans, goals, and accomplishments that you forgot about)
Helps others (when you make the big bucks, others can see how you got your start)

There are a lot of blogs out there, but there are more and more people coming on line every day.......post on your blog and they will come!

Why I post

I have 3 blogs that I have and run. 2 that are political in nature and 1 that is current event in nature. I love the blogs cause i can put my views in with the articles I profile. I have found one limitation with my political blogs. I try my best not to allow my personal affiliations to dictate my post so I leave my opinons out of the post unless if the post is a total post on my view points. Because with elections and politics such a tricky subject, I try to include all the news but sometimes some gets left off and falls through the cracks and of course those are the post people comment on and ask why i never posted it. But I love the blogging and like everyone else has said it shows a journey. If I had to do it again, I would limit myself to two blogs. 1 political and 1 current events. I am even thinking of taking my 2nd policitcal blog down and making it a park page that forwards to the other one. Then i would have a more centralized location for post.

How many readers are you all getting with your blogs? I would say mine but I just started since may since this past may so mine is probably smaller than yours. :anon.sml:

its a great way to get feedback and hear some new twists and ideas. I learn a ton from my blog and its readers.

To get me laid.
"Hey I've got a blog. Wanna come back to my place?"

I've been thinking a lot recently about opening my personal blog back up. I shut it down originally because I wasn't really offering anything of value, and it started to become a chore.

But these days it seems I'm chock full o' ideas. And I'm actually starting to become productive online. Most importantly I think having my personal blog online again would open up a lot of networking opportunities, that I feel like I've been missing out on.

My blog has gotten me quoted in the New Jersey Star Ledger, and almost got me a spot on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. You never know who is looking.

All of it. plus, what do you mean if it's worth it? it won't kill you to write in a blog :P

I guess in a sense then, a blog is like a public diary...I can't help but wonder how blogs have changed the field of journalism. As a news medium, blogs spread news quicker and more efficiently, provide uncensored information, and allow real time reader comments. I originally decided not to jump on the blogging bandwagon but as I get older and wiser, I am realizing that it may be an easy way to express and document ideas. As a means of exposing yourself to opportunities, I can see how maintaining a blog may contain lots of potential. In that sense, your motivation in writing the blog (whatever that may be) inevitably leads it to serve its purpose.

I'm not sure why I have a blog, really. Originally it was to try and help others, then I started forgetting to update it. Now, it just kind of fills up a space for one of my domains.

Maybe one day your personal blog could get famous and you could make a living out of it.

Its a long shot, but yeah its worth a try!
