What kind of Lawyer do i need?

It's getting time for me to quit my day job. But I want to make sure i cover my bases before im do it. One thing i really want to do is speak to a lawyer and have him look at my sites and make sure i would not be liable for any type of false advertising or anything like that.

What kind of Lawyer do i need? Know any good ones in Chicago?

Also, how many of you have lawyers look at your sites when you make them?

Sometimes our clients will have a lawyer look at their site or content before we get it. As for my personal sites I don't have a lawyer look it it. They would just make me take half of the CTA out. Lawyers don't understand what it takes to be successful online.

For direct response, its a different story.

I never have lawyers look at my sites. However if there was a single site that could generate me over 3K/month I would have one double check legalities but not just any lawyer could do it.

If you incorporate and buy insurance, look for a policy that covers legal fees. During the appraisal process, I'm guessing their lawyers would let you know if you have a potential liability.

I'm most concerned about having fake testimonials and product claims. Would hate to get sued for "false advertising" since my websites would be my only income when i quit my job...

Just use fake/private whois, and use a registrar/host that wont give you up

I always do private, but i can't count on the host.

Also, if i'm gonna quite my job and AM will be my main income, it's probably a good idea to touch base with a lawyer anyway. I have a wife and kid to look out for. Just wanna make sure i do everything tight off the bat and not learn lessons the hard way...


So, anyone know what kind of lawyer?

Curious about what kinds of disclaimers i need on my affiliate sites in general, and if there are legal issues with false testimonials based on advertiser claims...

I'm not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice, but from the research I've done in the past, fake testimonials actually do constitute false advertising, and also possibly libel, if the name gets attached to an individual who then complains about it not being a true and factual account of their words, expressed either orally or in print.

You can say a lot of bullshit that counts as sales puffery, so long as it's not using any words that are synonymous with being guarantees.
