What should I have done?

Amazing how we all are thinking to save this girl at 8 and then will be ruining her at 18. Given her family environment she will likely be ruined much before that by the overall culture, something we are all guilty of contributing to.

If you really want to do something for this girl clean up the world she is going to live in - maybe start with then net - something each of us has a lot of power to affect.

Oh crap, I forgot who I was talking to. (& before I get abused for this post - I included myself)

LOL to your professor. But i have myself noticed a calm (not horny) approach to mothers can be a decent way to get your work done. Because as pointed to by others, you dont know who was at fault. Maybe the mother received a kidnapping threat and wanted her daughter to understand the importance of staying indoors or maybe she watches too much of a television and is scared by what is going all over the world with "Small Kids"?? Or maybe tension, husband drunk and jobless etc. etc.

You may see child abuse I see a parent trying to be a parent and I wish more parents would be parents. If she didn't hit the kid I don't see anything wrong with it.

Exactly my point. A kid like me (a neighbour yelled at me once for hitting his kid - i was 5-6 back then - i remember puncturing his bikes tires) should get this sometimes. It keeps us from becoming a pain in the ass.

Similar experience happened 2 days ago. Sitting at a pool bar in Jamaica with my grandmom and aunt and a few other people. Some drunk fucker walks up and just starts talking to us while his kids are like 2 feet away trying to play with him in the pool. I saw him try and pick up 4 married women before he made his way over to us. He randomly starts talking about the need to smack his kids sometimes if they misbehave. Everyone is kinda uncomfortably laughing to keep it from being more awkward then it already was. At one point he says "kina funny, isnt it?" I looked up and said "its not funny. its fucked up. the fact that you have to hit your kids to get them to listen to you shows how much of a joke they think you are. it also shows how incapable you are of raising kids." He just walked off and started talking to different people. Saw him later that night trying to pick up younger girls at the bar. He tried to start conversation with me which means he didnt remember the incident at all. He was canadian btw

No, but seriously I would walk up to her and say "If you ever lay a finger on that child's head without reason, I'll personally beat the shit out of you". Sure, she can call da Poe Poe, but I'll just tell the police about the abuse. I ain't afraid of no Poe Poe, hoe. I don't hit women. I hit bitches.

... And women when they don't make me my god damn sammich!
