I've got the old version of this: Kindle Keyboard 3G with Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display, 3G works globally
I think it's a second gen Kindle. Love it.
Nice, how often do you use that keyboard though?

This says it all. I my spring for a Nexus 7 in the future, but not for reading because e-ink really can't be beat imo. This Kindle - This Kindle Why?
1) It's dirt fucking cheap. I don't give a shit if I lose it, if it falls in water, or if somebody runs off with it.
2) It's light. The non-touch Kindle is lighter than the touch one which enables me to hold it one handed indefinitely.
3) Page turn buttons. Love 'em. Don't have to move my hands to turn the page. Swiping sucks.
4) Kindle email. Download book > convert book > email book to Kindle.
5) E-Ink. If you're going to be reading, do yourself a favor and get an e-ink screen. Way easier on the eyes, way lighter, better battery life, etc, etc.

I actually just broke my original Kindle, so I'm looking forward to that slight upgrade. Anyone gone for the ad-supported, $20 cheaper Kindle? I figure, as long as it doesn't interrupt me while I'm reading, it ain't that big of a deal. Might find some samples for the ol' swipe file while I'm at it.

I read an hour or two a day on my Nexus 7...I used to read on an original kindle, which was nice, but honestly, the Nexus is a better reading experience.

E-ink still takes the cake for me. The lower end Kindles are for READING, at least that's why I own one. If I wanted a full-functioning tablet, I'd spring for something android, but honestly, my phone is big enough to bridge the gap for the most part.E-ink can be beat though. having read a few hundred hours on both E-ink and an normal nexus 7 tablet, the trade off is really the debate between having a natural looking page to read on but that's ultimately a really shitty slow tablet, or a real tablet that doesn't suck dick and is nice to read on. I prefer a backlit beautiful display so I went with a tablet.
This isn't a biased opinion, I've read dozens of books on both and honestly the usability of a kindle is shit compared to a tablet. A nexus 7 is like $100 extra and is so much better.

I think the main reason is for the shop. (although the notes are handy too)Never. I've often wondered what the point of it was. I read books, not take notes in them. If I wanted to take notes (on "The Hunger Games", hurr) I've got a legal pad on my desk.
