What the hell is wrong with young people today

I cant believe i'm actually making this rant because it feels like something my dad would say BUT what the hell is up with the young crowd coming through the ages of 16-17 these days.

I'm in Auckland, New Zealand, and the other day I watched some punk on a skateboard knock over an old lady and start laughing about it and getting lippy when I fronted him (he wouldnt let me get close enough to grab him...bastard ran off). He was probably about 16-17 and the dis-respect in just general was crazy. Man when I was that age I would have been shitting myself after that had happened but this kid didnt give a crap all dressed up like a gangster thug.

Now i'm not that old...early 30's and I consider myself to be pretty much reasonable and accepting...and in fact support most things youth are doing whether it be partying or loud behaviour...whatever...I think we have all done that from time to time. I mean shit...I even got into trouble doing crazy stuff when I was young.

What I dont remember ever doing was going out looking to cause harm and damage to others and that seems to occur frequently these days. I'm not quite sure where this change of attitude is coming from and man these kids have some sack...I got stopped in the city the other night and asked for $10 by five young kids...and they wernt happy when I said no. Forget about the fact that i'm twice the size of them...and ex military and could end them in 2 sec's flat....they still seriously considered having a crack.

So have I just become an old fart? Or has this crap been going on for a while and i've just been blind to it.

tl:dr

You've become an old fart.
Every person thinks as you do.

Try to do this. Remember back before you took personal responsibility. Before someone does that, remember, how your brain was able to reason away any action as "it's not my fault".

Are you able to make the logic assertions or do I have to say more?

Yeah I can buy that....because man I did some stupid shit when I was young but I still have trouble reconciling looking to harm others as a youthful no responsibility activity.

Anyway, good overall point.

Kids aren't brought up right anymore. It seems people would rather be their kids friends than be a parent or they're lacking the male role to show them how to act. If my son did something like that he'd get his ass kicked and he knows it. I'd then find out where the lady lived and he'd be an unpaid servent for a while. I don't think that's what would stop him from doing it though. I would like to think he wouldn't do it, because he knows it's wrong.

Stop reading.

I don't read socialist propaganda.

Mom and dad are too busy for junior nowadays, and teachers aren't even allowed to let kids lose at a game, let alone actually discipline the students. So yeah, when everyone is a unique, special winner, this is what happens.

I'm not sure it's much different than it was when I was growing up. Probably just depends what area you're in. Maybe you just notice it now more because you're all grown up. I remember doing some seriously stupid shit with my friends when I was younger. Personally, I stayed away from stuff that would cause harm to others but some of my friends would do stupid things like go slashing tires.

Although I've been enjoying railing against the shortcoming of young people on WF recently, in fairness, I have to say it's not JUST young people. It's everyone.

I've noticed a huge increase in rudeness, aggressive behaviour and intolerence from people across all ages and backgrounds.

Much as they like to think they're breaking away from their parents, teenagers really take their behavioural cues from others around them. I did plenty of asshole-ish things as a teenager, but I didn't harm others because my parents never behaved like that.

A couple of months ago, a woman (in her late 20s/early 30s) started a stand-up screaming and swearing match with me in a shop, and then spat at my car because she thought I'd taken her place in the queue (I hadn't). She had her 6-year-old daughter with her. How is that kid going to behave when she's older?

Young ones

Society has enabled the behavior of these kids. We live in a world where children spend large parts of their childhood hooked up to a video game system in a bedroom. Kids no longer spend enough time around positive influences, and this kind of disrespect is the result. They no longer possess the same manners that us older folks do because no value is placed on civility anymore.

I grew up in the 80s, and was always aware of how much the older generation had been through. Although it seems the world is full off these ignorant brats you witnessed, the fact you are calling them out is important. Too many people would sit back and do nothing to help.

Kids without dads.

I have two boys. I love them dearly. But if one of them knocked down a little old lady while riding a skateboard, I would punt them into next week.

Show me a group of boys aged 8-12, lemme watch them for about five minutes, and I can tell you with pretty good accuracy which ones don't have dads around.

Every generation says this. Nothing ever changes. Granted I'm 25 but when I was 10-15 I saw that kind of behaviour on the bus all the time.

Every single generation said the exact same thing since the dawn of time. It's you that changes.

When I was 15 I listened to a lot of metal and my parents found it gross obviously. Idiotically I said to myself I'll never be like that, I will try to understand every genre of music. Yeah, sure. I'm not even old and I'm already like them. Fucking skrillex and nicky minaj.

It's not that the music that's put out nowadays is any worse than 10 or so years ago. It's me that has a more "refined"/whatever taste in music. It's kinda the same with how you see the younger generation.

But who cares, you know? You grow up, you get a bit more rigid, develop your personality. Teenagers will in general always be idiots no one can change that, their brains aren't fully developed yet.

I just turned 28 in the past week, and I have a brother who is 18. I had more responsibility and more work experience than him when I was 13, and I think that it's because we were raised differently. If I fucked up and did something stupid, I got my ass handed to me. If he fucks up and does something stupid, he gets a new Xbox game.
