What the hell is wrong with young people today

Music went downhill with the invention of MTV then nosedived with the invention of auto-tune. That isn't even debatable. Before MTV, you actually needed to be able to play instruments and sing to get featured on radio.

Nigga please, I hate rap, but compare Lil Wayne to early 90s rap and it's two different worlds. Or compare modern metal to Metallica, AC/DC, Iron Maiden or whatever your favorite bands are. There's a reason those dinosaurs still sell out stadiums, it's because they can play.

Today, you only need tits and ass to sell.
 


Typical parents of such kids:

Dad: big money maker... works 12 hours a day, then hits the restaurants/bars with his colleagues, comes back home late every day. Often away on business trips, golf trips, etc...

Mom: also a career woman, works a 9 to 5, goes to the gym/tanning salon/massage after work because she wants to look good. Very self-involved woman basically.

This gives you a mentally disturbed kid who has no morality and no concept of right and wrong... way more dangerous than any ghetto kid.

Agree. Longer work hours have a lot to do with parents not being able to raise their kids right and spend enough time with them. Kids learn their ethics and morals from TV...and we know that can't be good.

You have a point but the change isn't in quality it's the way music is produced. The bands you mentioned did all the work themselves, but nowadays there's usually a whole factory behind a famous performer. Eg. people see Lady Gaga and see her sexual image but most don't see the raw talent behind her act. It's just that her image is what makes the most money - meaning: hits target demographics the hardest.

There's still a ton of talent it's just easier to say music was better in the good old times than admit you just don't like the new trends.

Edit: Also, saying autotune is bringing the quality down is like saying CGI somehow makes a movie less appealing.

It all depends on where you are right? If you go to the community service events, then it'll be like, "wow, this kids are so good hearted and mature".

It's all perception based on where you are. Avoid the malls :P haha!
 
Pretty soon you will be discussing about how much harder you had it during your school days than these whippersnappers and telling stories about how you walked to school in 8ft of snow, up-hill both ways.

I'm just curious, because it's worth being consistent in beliefs.

I'm starting to form the belief that there has been a degradation of respect standards over the last 20 years and I think a few off the posters have hit the nail on the head....time with their kids. I'd love to see the correlation with the rapidly increasing work hours over the last 20 years and the increase of general stupidity.

I'm really starting to wonder if we are breeding a generation of disrespectful TV punks because of our inability to spend enough time with our kids to impart some normality into their moral beliefs.

@Benji49 - Thats because you care about your kids and are obviously a good dad unlike many of the parents I see around some areas of the world :)

Anyway, been an interesting thread and lots of good views from both sides of the fence. Nice to know im not the only grumpy old fart on here :)

Man, no kidding. I've lived in this apartment for about 6 years, and these young punks moved in below me. They keep having friends over and having parties with loud music, with their windows open, which doesn't really bother me. I understand that. But the thing that kills me is they keep tossing their cigarette butts out onto the roof of the dentist building next door. And they even throw pizza crust out there. It's ridiculous.

I totally agree. I am a dentist you see, and recently some young twats moved into an apartment building next door. They keep throwing cigarette butts and other junk on my roof. To make matters worse there's this old drunk guy who are always half naked and is running around and yelling at people all of the time.
