So I sent 20k to start advertising with a certain ad company around 2 months ago. After spending a few K in advertising, I backed out and requested a refund.

The IO I got says that they will refund me, and my manager told me before that i could ask for a refund anytime.

Now its been over 1 month since I requested a refund, and I emailed about 10 times requesting a refund..... Excuses I got:

Was on vacation

Really busy

Will check on it

Emailed accounting dep.

Email account dep second time

No response

What should I do? Sure i can wait longer but I just want the money and never deal with this company again... Can I call some kind of collection agency? idk..

I would call to collection agency.
Also 20k is a lot to "start advertising". Already bad sign for me. I know big companies require big money for that, but for that sum they are probably top 3-5, so you can out them here:)

I had a similar experience, probably the same company. Got the money in the end, but boy was it hard work.

+1 on this

If it's in the IO that they'll refund you and they aren't, a collection agency may be the only way to get your funds back. Just note the collection agency will keep anywhere from 20-40% of the money they collect.

One thing that sometimes works for us is to write up a warning notice and fax + email it to every contact we have with a deadbeat company. The notice has the name, etc. of our agency but is prepped and sent by us. This sometimes catches the attention of the right person at the deadbeat company and gets them to pay, with the benefit to us being we don't pay the collection agency fee.

well i'm glad you at least included the "never deal with this company again" part. Who was the advertiser? None of us want to have to deal with the same

I'd say try to get on the phone with them.

Call your rep everyday. Be patient and keep it friendly (regardless of how you feel).

You rep has (or should have) an incentive to keep you happy. The anonymous guy in the accounting dept doesn't care.

Yeah I'm thinking of waiting a bit more, sending a few emails and calling my rep a few times. If after another month I get no refund I'll have no choice to get some sort of collection agency on them.

In the IO it doesnt say how long they can keep the money, but it does say they must refund you for ads not served. Should've made them include how many days for the refund.

The company is located in Canada. Won't dish out their name just yet since i'd like to get a refund and if someone from their company sees a thread like this one against their company it might just make them hold my money even longer... :/

Best of luck on collecting that money. Some companies can really be risky and unreliable. You should definitely look into a network that has the stability and reputation for being able to pay their publishers, advertisers, etc- on time! If you're ever in need of a suggestion, just hit me up! :)

I'm calling Robert at 4 am PDT about accounting issues every day from now on to see if AAO really stands by their banner ads.

Collection agency? How about a lawyer? Do you guys not have lawyers that can handle this shit for you?
