What to get dad...?

Unless your dad is limited finantially, he likely has everything he wants.

Get him something that is an experience (a weekend getaway just the two of you, or something where you share time together)

If he doesn't have a mechanical keyboard, that is a big one. Also, check his office chair, he might enjoy something better. Don't buy him anything material that he won't use often.

Get him a DAY OFF. Besides what UG stated above most family men, myself included want to be left the fuck alone every once in a while.

In my case that means the wife leaves the house with the kid and I get to chill and let my mind go blank for a few hours.

another idea: A buddy of mine's wife organized a get together for her husband. She invited all of his friends to a bar/restaurant so they could have some drinks and cool out without the women and kids. this started a couple of years ago and is becoming a nice tradition

so do that for him.

does he golf? fish? like the opera (ha)? organize something for him and a few of his buddies. clock is ticking tho homes.

He's in Buenos Aires right now, we don't see each other much even when he's home, we live in different countries. It's funny because we are at a very similar financial level so it's hard for me to get him anything he hasn't already bought for himself.

I ended up deciding to "do" rather than buy. I've been contacting all his buddies, his family etc all day for pictures of him. I have my assistant scanning my albums here and uploading them. I bought his name domain and I'm building him a site. He's a corporate guy so he doesn't have one of his own, I thought it could be cool. Galleries of the different trips he's taken, galleries of him as a kid, a teen. I have recordings of his music, he plays the guitar. All organized and shit. He used to like to write so he'll have a blog to record his travels. I am harassing people for video spots where they wish him a happy fathers day, will be on one page. So yeah, I have all my employees working on it with me and we are getting no real work done :)

When he's done in Argentina we'll meet for dinner too. Had to say thank you to u guys for your help, what I kept hearing was "time"
 
1 mistake I think a lot of you guys made in this thread is thinking that if someone is in Mensa, that they are financially well off.

My dad happens to be very well off but yeah that's very true. A lot of really smart people can't parlay that to success in business. I've met a lot of broke geniuses. And there are a lot of rich, successful people that aren't incredibly intelligent too.

Being brilliant can even be a disadvantage if it means you can't connect with the rest of the population, happens a lot. Too smart to function.

If not, maybe grab him one. Fits your passport, boarding passes, cash, cards, and whatever else. My dad thinks his is the cat's ass, but of course, that's because he found it himself instead of someone giving it to him. :)

That's a solid idea. I remade my parent's business websites (they're both artists) for xmas. WordPress blew their mind at how they could actually edit their stuff and they were really happy with it. Or I'm a shitty son and they were making fun of the sites when I left.

For father's day I'm just going freshwater fishing with my pops (I live practically down the street from them). Been doing it since I was like 8.
