It's obvious from other threads that a lot of us love films. And from others' comments, I've been encouraged to rent some that I missed. I thought it might be good to have a "movie" thread in which we can pop in, mention movies to watch or avoid, and give a few opinions about them.

I'll start.

This past weekend, my lady and I watched "No Country For Old Men." I had never seen it.

Awesome. I'll admit, I'm biased about the Coen brothers. But, the writing, the lack of music in the scenes, and the acting made for a near-flawless movie.

There were some dialogue-driven scenes that I didn't want to end. They were so tense; the cadence of Bardem's speech, the growing sense of dread, etc.

9 on a 10 scale.

So, I'm hoping a few of you can offer your opinions about recent movies you've seen (in the theater or on DVD). Over time, we'll have a nice little database of films to add to our Netflix queues.

What was the last movie you watched?

The last movie I watched was last night: While She Was Out (While She Was Out (2008)). It wasn't the best movie I've seen of late, but it was pretty gripping to say that the plot is just a woman running away from some crazed up youths.

Good movie.. kinda scary.. the whole drug dealer thing is scary because we know that those fuckers will do anything..

I'd have to say the best movie that I've seen in a while is Kill Bill II.. freaky shit..
The other day I watched The Cleaner pretty good drama
I also liked 300 not necessarily because of the quality of the film, but because it was a true story Battle of Thermopylae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Those Spartans were some bad ass warriors..

I recently saw Wanted with Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, it was a good flick I thought, some of the shots were really dope and the editing was sick! I also saw Traitor with Don Cheadle, that story really made me think. Both good flicks! Before that it was Tropic Thunder, this movie I had to buy, some of the funniest shit ever!

I saw Special (2006/I) yesterday. Pretty good comedy/drama with Michael Rapaport.
LES FRANKEN (Michael Rapaport) leads a painfully unremarkable life as a metermaid until he enrolls in a drug study for an experimental anti-depressant. An unexpected side effect of the drug convinces Les he is developing special powers and must quit his job to answer his new calling in life... Superhero. A very select group of people in life are truly gifted. Special is a movie about everyone else.

Tropic Thunder and No Country For Old Men are among my favorite movies of the last two years!!!

I'm definitely gonna rent "Tropic Thunder." Every time I saw the trailer, I cracked up at Robert Downey Jr. My lady would look at me with a "you're an idiot" look on her face.

The last I went to see was "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
The last movie I watched was "I Am Legend" on On-demand. I love that movie.

Hmm..."The Ruins" on tmn. Kinda messed up. Remember the thread someone made here of some chick cutting herself up? Well she could have fit into the script here...

Also saw Batman just recently, awesome movie.

Last movie was 7 Pounds. It was good, not great. With all the media hype surrounding it, and all the secrecy behind the "twist", it fell below expectations.

No Country For Old Men, however, was fucking legendary.

Crash... which is a fucking excellent movie.

"Crash" was terrific.

Paul Haggis, the screenwriter, is batting a thousand. His "In The Valley Of Elah" and "Million Dollar Baby" were both intense.

I was thinking about checking out "Seven Pounds." I like Will Smith, but the trailer seemed... too sensational. Aside from a few guilty pleasures ("paging Michael Bay"), I love character-driven stories.

So, if you folks are giving "Seven Pounds" a mild Thumbs Up, I may have to bite.
