I've been a freelance web designer for almost six years now, but I'm bored of it. I want to provide my services in another way. I'd like to create products using my design skills and sell them, non-unique, to people who need them. Problem is, I don't know what people could use from me.

What would be a good product, that I can create, that you guys would use? Informational or not.

Throwing in a link to my portfolio so people can get an idea of what I'm capable of:

I also run: DesignersMind

Thanks.

are you wanting to create web apps or what?
like bar says
you can actually make a bit of money having a site focused on myspace apps and layouts

I'm a designer, not a coder. I'm looking to use the skills I already have and create products that I can sell in my own store.

Awesome designs, you are definitely good. You could consider creating a template shopping site. Sell some templates and give others out for free with a backlink.

Can you people not read or something? He's not looking to freelance anymore and wants ideas to make money.

Tyler, are you sure you are bored, or just developing a reputation... a bad one at that.

Perhaps you should just can the Internet business ideas until you learn that you can't screw people, and expect to be successful on the net. I could be completely wrong, and I'm sure there will be people that will still show interested in you because you can design, but personally, I think most would be very sceptical about doing business with you...

My tip, go back to playing drums ;)

My tip to you: stay on topic. This thread has nothing to do with my business ethics. If you really want, go make a thread about me, I really couldn't care less right now, you already got me banned at the only place I got work from. Now here's the deal. I'm going to open my store on DesignersMind, and my first $100 profit will go to you. Then, you can go back to TFL and get me unbanned as I won't be advertising my services anyways, I'm not freelancing anymore.

I think you should stop telling people to avoid me if there's nothing to avoid anymore.

I've gotten this suggestion a few times so far. I've already started work on the first WP skin, it should be up within a few days (1-2 days if I can figure out what I'm going to use as a shopping cart..).

here's some ideas to make money w/ your design skills...(i too sometimes get a lil 'bored' with design)

its nice to do and design what you wanna design without having to deal with a client and get paid for it at the same time.

- make designs, putt'em on shirts...sellem on cafe press

- make screen savers, desktop wall papers, and follow eli's method on $100/day post on bluehatseo.com

- make site templates (as already suggested)

- make website design tutorials? sell'em - record your desktop on what you do to make a design, edit it, and make a collection...upload one to youtube as a "freebie" put your website addy on it to drive traffic to your "website design tutorial site"

- make icons

- take up painting, sell your prints online for an insane amount.

- top it all off, brand all your designs with a website(s) address to drive traffic, and whatever website you choose, monetize that site somehow, put some adsense on there or something..

these ideas are pretty basic, hope it helps.

I actually already have an icon set for sale, here, but the Paypal account can't take payments until I verify it so that's on pause. So far, reading the posts from here and DP, I'm looking to expand my blog DesignersMind into a storefront for templates, icons and other things of the like, and a design forum. I've never gotten into monetizing a blog or forum, but I'm genuinely interested! I'd like to create a one-stop web design resource for designers and non-designers alike!
