End of the rainbow
So I hired a full-time developer a little less than 3 months ago. I'm paying him 6-figures, and started him out on a 3 month "trial period." Things have been going great, and soon I'll be offering him a permanent, contract position.

I want to get him some kind of Xmas gift, but I have no idea what to get him...

Since I'm paying him well, and he's only been working for me less than 3 months, he's certainly not expecting any kind of Xmas bonus or anything like that, but I do want to get him something ...

Problem is that he works remotely, he's "all business", and I hardly know anything about him yet. Nothing to give me any idea what to get him anyway.

He's about 35 years old. Married with no kids. Probably your typical developer. What kind of shit do these guys like?? If anyone has any ideas aside from something generic like an Amazon gift card (plus that's awkward, how much??) I'd love to hear 'em!

This may sound like a bull shit cop out but it is the truth, it is the thought that counts. Get him something for him and his wife. Search local to him for a hot new restaurant and yeah send him a gift card for that place.

Get him the best mechanical keyboard available... Filco Majestouch 2

Japanese engineering, solid as fuark, will last forever.

A keyboard for a programmer that does not have a numeric keypad? That's an instant fail.

It's not so much the numbers themselves, but being able to roll the comment keys /* and */ with two fingers on the same hand easily without needing to use distant keys plus the shift key. Sounds trivial, I know.

One of the reasons I hate using most laptops.

Edit: Just to add, the general idea is not necessarily bad. :)

Tenkeyless pictured, can get one with numpad.

A bouquet of flower for him and his wife. if *he* doesn't like it, his wife will and, therefore, he'll like it.

Seriously, please the wife, win the man.

(I second that this thread is full homo).

6-figures for a trial period? I don't know about the pay that you get in the US for a developer, but are you sure it's 6-figures?

By the way you can get him a Laptop or a Mac-Book if you are really paying him 6-figures.
