did i just hear someone recommend a capital one card to someone with low credit? Sorry but that's the worst advice ever.

Their entire business is screwing over young kids getting their first card. Like the ppl said above go with some place responsible like amex or bankofamerica (thats who i happen to use) that won't give you a 23% interest rate and purposely wait extra days to make your payments go through so they can tack on never ending fees that they won't put on till the next billing cycle so your payments will be short so you can get more fees and more interest. They feed on people like you. Why do you think its only a $300 limit? You think an account is even worth messing with for $300? It's just a way they can suck you into a never ending debt cycle while you think you're the problem not them. I facepalmed when i heard Myspace started giving out their own credit card. It's very bad news.

My advice to you is to get a real card and if you can't get that get a gas station card to help build up the credit till you can.
I can confirm this. When I was 18 I was able to get a Capital One credit card. I've never missed a payment, and my limit is at $500.. I received a letter in the mail a few months ago saying they are increasing my APR 14.9%! I think that increase put it right at the federal max or whatever. I've also read that they don't report your credit limit to the credit bureaus, which I think hinders you from increasing your credit score ( I'm not saying it's fact, just something I read awhile ago ). They are bastards, get an American Express card

Check this out: Consumer complaints about Capital One

Also, Regarding them withholding your credit limit:
For instance, Capital One has admitted to the practice of withholding reporting its customers' credit limits to the three credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Why would a company neglect to report a customer's credit limit? There's speculation that Capital One didn't want to make it easy for competitors to identify its better customers by trolling through the national credit databases.1
The Capital One customer loses out in this scenario because a credit score can shrink when a credit account's information doesn't include a credit limit. The credit limit is an important part of the credit score calculation, and without it, the credit score assumes you've maxed out your credit limit.

Oh snap. I didn't think this thread was still alive. The $300 limit card is MasterCard from Household banks. I only charge a few things here and there, nothing more then $100 and I pay like 10 days early to be safe. I always get those letters from Capital One telling me to sign up with them. I just throw those in the trash.

Like I said in the first post, I was seeing if I can get a card under my dad. I just got that card a week or so ago, the Amex Blue Rewards Card or something.

Until then, I think I should be safe using the Amex and the household bank card and paying that off early.

Amex Starwood to bank you points for travel
Amex Plum for cash back but they've tightened things up a lot
B of A purchasing card if you want cash back and HUGE limit.

Don't let Amex tell you they have no limits on their cards cause that's just not true.

how does one get the amex plum with barely any credit history? can you show bank statements or something?
