You're assuming that your friends/family in this world will still be your friends/family in the afterlife.

Aren't we all responsible for our own beliefs and actions?
Are we responsible for what other's beliefs and actions....

If you worked your ass off in life and got a great paying job, a fancy house/car, and a hot wife...would you be happy or miserable because your fat low life cousin fred lives in an van by the river, never works, and lives off of handouts?

If life in heaven is eternal and life on earth is finite, then i believe my real friends and family are in heaven...not on this world.

There is absolutely no reason that cousin Fred couldn't still have a hot wife! It's called game!

I was raised in house with a father who was pastor of an Assemblies Of God church, a Pentecostal denomination. I lived in that church for years and years. I did eventually leave, realizing the church wasn’t for me any longer, and started exploring other spiritual beliefs.

I’m now a very spiritual person and think everyone’s expression of their beliefs is just as valid as anyone else’s. The Jewish, Buddhists, Christians, Atheists, ECT, all play a very important roll in a persons development. Neither are right and neither are wrong, they are just tools used to do what we are all meant to do while we live life, be the best you, you can be.

I'm a pretty devout Atheist (not agnostic), Which is not "such a bad move".

People always ask me... "What if you're wrong?" or "Why not be an agnostic, that way when you die at least you have a chance".

My answer to that is "what if I'm wrong about what? About zues? About Jesus? Muhammad? Buddah? about the flying spaghetti monster? what if YOUR wrong?"

in the words of Richard Dawkins:

"We are all atheist to 99.99999% to the gods that all humans who have ever walked the earth have ever worshiped. I just happen to take it one god further."

It's crazy that all the religious characters are simply entities/symbols to the inner workings of your mind. Try researching Paganism, Buddhism, Tao, Christianity.. They are all about the same thing, just different wording/teaching style.. And they are all devoted to helping you understand the other side to reality, Sucks that materialist took over and made everything so literal that people actually think that Jesus is a person, And don't realize that the religions were referring to him as the Sun The Symbols really don't matter, All religion is trying to do it point you in the right direction to enlightenment.

Deep down I think that nothing is out there...therefore I'm an atheist. But I would never shove it down someones throat.

However I will be a Militant Agnostic. Cause really, I DONT know and Neither do you.

So stop being an idiot.

I thought the money goes to charity?

I'll assume you're not being sarcastic so here comes a serious answer. I acknowledge that keeping a church running takes money, and that congregation members should donate to keep a church running.

However, the priests have to get from the rectory to the church somehow. Doesn't mean the congregation has to buy them all fuckin Ferraris. When Jesus spoke about "my church", he wasn't talking about some multi-million dollar building with gaudy statues and marble floors. "Church" was simply supposed to be a group of people. And the original churches pretty much congregated anywhere they could without being killed for doing so.

When I was attending catholic church, the church building was attached to a catholic highschool. When it came time for the church building to undergo some structural renovations, church services were temporarily moved to the (rather large) auditorium of the adjoining high school. Believe me when I tell you that a good 60-75% of the congregation stopped coming. It was like if they couldn't "get their God on" in a building that looked like a Persian palace, then they were no longer interested in God period.

I'm not interested in the lip-service over-rehearsed Catholic mass, their empty ritualistic sacraments, or the idea that I need a priest in order to talk to God. Pardon me, but FUCK YOU. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Can you give us some more info on the Jesus = Sun thing please? It's a very interesting concept and I'd love to learn more about it.

My understanding is that there are documents (the journal of some Roman I think) confirming that a guy called Jesus lead a religious sect in Judea about 2000 years ago and that he was executed. How is he, and the popular myths about his life, connected to Jesus, The Sun?

If you must worship something, The Sun is the obvious choice of god - The Earth and everything on it is a product of The Sun's energy. When The Sun shines things are good, plants grow and people smile. The atoms that make up The Sun are everywhere, they are the building blocks of life. The Sun is a truely omnipresent creator. Without The Sun we are nothing.

The most profound 'religious' experiences I've had have been at Stonehenge on Summer Solstice. The first rays of the morning sun shining through the ancient stones warming thousands of smiling faces, drums pounding, people dancing. The Sun celebrated in a place used by man for 10000 years, maybe for the same purpose.

If I needed to worship something it would be The Sun.

It's the difference between thinking and knowing isn't it?

I think there is maybe some other form or level of existence that we probably aren't capable of understanding, the label "god" doesn't seem right though. Maybe this Thing = God = heaven = nirvana = n(man - the self)?

I know that I don't know.

I know that most religions are much more about passing on traditions than they are about trying to connect with or understand this Thing that has been around as long as man, yet we are no closer to knowing what it is.
