So as you can probably read, I live in San Jose, Costa Rica. I moved down here partly because I am from Minnesota and I don't really enjoy the cold weather (wrong state to live in i know). I hated the cold but I cant remember ever getting depressed because it was getting cold out...

but now that I live in Costa Rica, we only have two seasons, rainy season and dry season. i moved here during the dry season and not that I am experiencing the rainy season, I am suffering some pretty intense depression. It's almost like i got used to the sun everyday and now when it starts to rain i get sleepy and kinda melancholy. i know this is probably just your skin craving the vitamin D it is used to producing from sun exposure but i dont remember ever feeling this when I lived in Minnesota and it was cloudy and overcast during the winter. i know it is related to the weather and not my lifestyle because when it is sunny here i feel really good but maybe its the everyday rain thats getting to me.

that got a lot longer than i had planned....anyway....

do any of you go through this? anybody in a similar situation? any suggestions to get over it? I have about 6 months of rainy season to endure....

How cheap is costa rica? I think of moving there or something for this summer, can't fucking take living in the city anymore!

** or some cheap small town.

don't you have to get out of country every three months? hunker down, build, build, build, scale it up - best to get work done while it's not very nice out, then enjoy the days that are nice - completely.

I live in South Dakota and I feel your pain. I had to buy some really nice photos of sunny places to hang in my office, else by Feb I'd fucking kill myself.

Nice thing is you have warm, yet wet, weather, and lots and lots of very hot 20-somethings down there in the spring!

Find yourself a girl! Wet without the rain!

Yeah, I like that. Too bad I suck right now and only making $10-15 per day.

Keep at it. If you can make $10, you can make $1000 eventually.

I live in Colorado, we get like 300 sunny days a year or something. When it's gray and cloudy for more than 1 day I get lethargic so I know how you feel. Do you exercise regularly? That seems to help me a lot.

Incidentally, my buddy is trying to talk me into buying a "finca" down near Puriscal. What do you think of living in Costa?

costa rica is really cheap...especially if you dont live right in san jose...i live a little ways out and i pay about $130 a month in rent....and you dont need a car because public transportation is so good.

I actually lived near puriscal for a while, quiet and beautiful but not very lively. nothing going on past about 8pm except on friday and saturday. perfect place though if you are retired....

well uh....i am girl....so that wont work because i dont swing that way. second, i work too much that i dont really seem to have time to dedicate to a real relationship. but i had thought of that.

might try the sunny pictures thing though, thanks. and the exercising thing is a good idea, i used to work out a lot and i quit for a few years, maybe its time to get back at it...ill start by quitting smoking lol

I'm also in Minnesota. When the summer rolls around... it's absolutely amazing. It's like ecstasy for 3 months straight.

I think everyone form cold climates suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder to an extent. I certainly do... I dont get 'depressed' per se but, definitely just low and bummed out. Mid-winter vacation to Mexico is essential.

Now it's beautiful here... and people complain that it's 85-90 degrees and 'muggy'... shit, enjoy it while it's here... much better to be hot and sweaty than -30 degrees and freezing cold.

I hear ya. Nassau in November and Cancun in Feb! Can't be beat!

thats the weird thing, i thought for sure that i would much rather have rain than snow but now that i am here i am actually starting to miss the snow. i never got sad when fall and winter started, but when it starts raining my mood goes right down the drain. i miss the cold more than i ever thought i would, the crisp cold air in the morning is refreshing and clean. the snow is beautiful. i dunno...mixed emotions on all that. the grass is always greener on the other side....

and erect....be my guest....try to find some pics of me....heh heh id like to see you flex your intimidation muscle...besides the sad little one in your pants....;)

i used to get SAD ^ when I lived in Rochester, which was 6 months or so of straight winter. It sucked... I had to smoke a lot of weed.

i love the seasons...but this winter was the first one that i was suffering SAD....what helps...doing alot of winter stuff...hockey..boarding...snowballs...licking frost..etc etc....i dont know if that converts well to rain season...but yah.... oh and planning stuff to do when its dry season will defiantly give you things to look forward too... trips, activities etc

jogging in the rain sounds like fun...

the worst part is i just got back from vacation in minnesota about a week and a half ago and it was absolutely beautiful and sunny and perfect. the sun down here is a bit too harsh to stand in when its really sunny out (at least for me because I am really white). so not only was i leaving behind my family and friends but also beautiful weather...seems weird that coming back to costa rica means leaving behind nice weather. i know im just being a baby about it but i thought id ask if any of you have suffered this...im definetely getting a lot of work done though since i dont want to go outside. thanks guys for the suggestions....
