I hate this question! Nearly everyone I know is into tech, or sleeping with someone that is, so I can't just brush it off 
I usually say "Data Forensic Specialist..." and they start to smile and then I add "... and sales", and watching their face just crumple is still good fun.
My mother still assumes everything I do is illegal, which is odd, because my brother was the one that used to grow weed in our backyard and was the head of security for a chain of strip clubs, before becoming a P.I.
