When to put ads on a blog?

I've heard that when you're first starting out on a blog, it's best to keep it ad-free if possible to avoid driving away potential readers, and to only place ads on there when you've already got a loyal base.

Well, my blog now gets about 150 unique hits daily, about a third of which are returning visitors. Is now a good time to bust out the AdSense, or should I wait longer?
 


How long has your blog been up? I'd say about a month to 2 months of your site being live should be sufficient time.
 
Just keep your ads tasteful (in quality and quantity) and your users will not leave, generally.

Any time is a good time to add adsense imho.
 
Alright, thanks for the advice, everyone! Sounds like now is as good a time to any to look into AdSense. :) I'll just have to make sure to keep it all low-key.
 
There is such rule on when to place ads on your website. Try to do it gradually, don't just place ads for the money. Try selling interesting things. I'd say Adsense isn't always your best choice, it depends from niche to niche. What is your niche?

You will be much better off with one Clickbank (or similar) product per page. Adsense is fine but you will need more traffic than you currently have, to make any decent money.
More focus is always better and will result in better conversions, just make sure that your ad is related to the post or page.
 
I'd put them up right away, so that way people know your site has ads and they get used to it from the start. Later on you can add more ads, once you build up an audience/views/etc.
 
My niche is exotic pet care information. The overall audience for it is small, but the niche isn't highly saturated either.

I'll have to look into Clickbank. :)
