Same for us in the UK. We won it, it's ours, the state doesn't get a penny.
If I won the lotto big in the US I would transfer the cash to an account overseas and get on the next plane out of there before they get thier hands on it.:boid:

No Kidding! Canadian $ is basically on par with the US $ right now, but a few years back it was worth much less. I remember when they did a 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' Canadian Edition, and the commentators joked that, even with our dollar only trading at about 0.70 cents to the US, the Canadian winners would still be winning more then their Yankee counterparts.
I am honestly shocked that Americans would even stand for this. So uptight about Taxes and Freedoms and Rights etc.
