Seriously, are they hiding from me or something?

I'm in the process of starting my blog about...well......me and I've tripped, slipped and busted my lip at the first hurdle!!

All of the themes I've looked are so far are WAY too generic.

Does anyone know of any unique ones that would fit into an IM, SEO type blog?

Also, on a side note - Has the background of WF always been #3C3838? or have i mashed my eyes up too much, therefore making it look lighter?

This has been on my mind too a lot.

Now when it comes to structure, there a few choices, really 1-4 columns, header. You can't really go creazy.

I think the best way to make a site look very nice, is to get a simple but practical layout and then replace the images. Built all kind of visual effects into the images so it looks much more sophisticated then it really is.

been using this in other sectors where i make up for my lack of programming skills with high level design

That being said, if you do find a stash of amazing templates, let me know

i usually find generic ones then edit the shit out of it for my needs. It saves a couple hours not having to setup the CSS and shit.

I feel your pain. Almost every theme I find that LOOKS perfect on the outside is a totally different story when you install it. Almost every theme has some kind of flaw that makes it totally unusable for your specific needs which makes you want to smack the designer in the face. Yesterday, I found a perfect theme for one of my niche sites, and after I installed it, I realized it doesn't support sidebar widgets.

But, like Barman said - just edit the theme to your liking. Even if you're not good with editing themes, it's not too hard overall. Just google your troubles away and play with the code a bit.

Not to smell spammy or anything, but I just found out after I posted last time that my friend is giving away quite a few free accounts to the $5 themes club. Check it out here if you want.

WP Themes

Bam Bam

If you are still looking I came across an IM guy's blog post of hundreds of themes and places to get themes. You can check at http:kokope.com - apparently he copied a WF post containing both free and pay for themes.

I copied the list but there are way too many to list here unless people want to see it - and there are way too many for me to look at.

But if you feel like hunting for a few hours, go for it.

On a related note - Just how important is it to update my wordpress when wordpress.org claims a fix for a major security hole?

I'm using an old version of a plugin and don't particularly want to spend hours troubleshooting if , as I suspect, there will be another urgent security patch again every two or three weeks from them.

You have two choices, well three. Design your own spectacular WP theme, hire someone to design that cutting edge theme or three continue being lazy and use the free shit everyone is using.

What kind of theme are you looking for, shoot me some details, maybe I can hook you up fairly cheep, I have a shit load of themes I designed and never used, some already coded some not, or we can build something from scratch.

Watch out for hidden links in free themes. I've found a few where they have slipped in a link to their own site and set the font colour to the background colour of the site.
