I run an ecommerce site. And like anyone else, I am always looking to generate more sales.

Is it possible to find good salespeople who will sell my drop-shipped product on a commission-only basis? I'm talking about offline sales, obviously.

If so, where could I find such people? Is Odesk or Elance a good place to look?

Lastly, if anyone has experience with such a fee structure, what is a typical percentage that they get of the revenue/profit?

On this particular site/product, my margins are already on the lower end, but it is still fairly high-ticket items, so I'm confident it could be worth it for the right people.

Thanks.

Dont even bother, good sales people dont work for nothing and they definitely don't work commission only for someone new/they dont know.

Ive tried hiring a lot of sales people and went in with this attitude too, but it doesnt work and youll waste your time, you need to have a well thought out pitch, product and commission structure. And pay a decent basic, to get anyone good.

Find and train young hustlers.

Depending on your price point/commission structure, the kinds of kids who push shit at mall kiosks and get up in peoples faces to pitch them might be interested in your offer.

I've seen some very young, very good salesmen in situations like the one I described.

I have the same question on my mind as of late. Having spoken with some really top notch salespeople, their expectations are very high - a salary, car and 401k are often expected.

The young hustlers that IcetoEskimos described seem to work most of the time, but in the past we have encountered a few issues. One amazing rep we had got us around 30 stores in a month, but then ended up stealing and selling some of our inventory on the side. That certainly could have been avoided, I will say, but we had to let them go. It has the potential to reach the point where the pay is just not enough. I think that the baseline salary is really important.

If anyone has some quality links or resources on this topic, I would love to see what others have to say.

Yeah, I kind of had the sense that it might be like that. I might try to find some college kids or something, maybe try my luck on the freelancing sites.

I doubt you will find good commission-only sales people on contracting websites.

To give you good specific advice, I would need to see the website and the product.

Commission-only salesman are very hard to find especially with all of the MLM's and other low-end jobs recruiting at colleges.

It sounds like what you need are partners more than salesman. Have you tried approaching similar ecommerce stores to feature your products? Maybe Boggers?

If you want salesman to work for you commission only, provide them the ability to make money relatively quickly. This usually means giving them commissions on sales they don't generate themselves, similar to inside sales.

Is it a product that can be sold in stores?

If so try visiting a couple busy mom and pop stores, gas stations, etc... and get them to stock your product. You might have to bribe some of them with consignment terms but if your product sells well it shouldn't be a problem.

OP - did you ever find any good sites or salespeople?

I very recently ran across a service by timetohire.com, they seem to help find you sales reps for $379. I am thinking about using them soon but I'm still researching them at this point. Has anyone here used them? It's gotta be better than craigslisting for reps.

I have experience in this sort of things but be honest sales person only generate profit when they are making good sum of money for themselves and If you really want to hire a sales person you should have good enough products and services to promote.

The thing about sales people, and I've tried to recruit really good ones I've known for different ventures is that they see time as money.

If you don't pave the way for them, and have leads stacked up then you're wasting everyone's time. They can crush it for you, they can make you millions.. but their inbox is full of people like you who NEED them and will kill to have them. So, the minute they can't buy their new Jet Ski because they were sitting around for a week, they're out the door.

Keep this in mind.. there are people who have no idea of their potential, that you can make into absolute monsters if you try. There are people that today will go door to door in southern california and sell maybe 2 $3000 vacuum cleaners before the day is done. They are out there, some of them just need an opportunity to be a part of something real.. not just be taken advantage of.

Product

It depends what u are selling if it is unique product or products and you think only you could be best provider than I gues sales people dont mind to put effort but if your product line is very common and than I dont think so there is good chance of hiring good people because can be sales person fot themselves.
