Where do you guys find good programmers?

People that know their stuff (not gods, but not people that think that just because they read a couple of feeds, ebooks and such think they are coders)

I'm not looking for "uber"coders, far from it, just somebody that does know and has a little to show (i.e portfolio)

it is very hard, ive been looking for a decent one on getafreelancer, but i got scammeed once and the next guy sucked.
Ive got decent web design from there, but decent programmers are hard to find

if the guy is good he is either making $$$$ for himself, or working for someone who is paying him big $$$.

No where, unfortunately they have all been injured , killed, or offended. If it hasn't happened to them personally, this curse has afflicted their immediate family.

Have you tried rentacoder.com ? No personal experience since I do all coding myself but the site has been around for years so it must work for a lot of people.

I build my own sites, so not a problem for me on that end, I have a similar problem finding good designers.

I usually ask for referrals from friends, or go to sites that I like and try and contact the people that made them to see if they are available for hire.

They are quite easy to find if you pay the market price, that's $400-$800 a day, depending on experience.

^^^^^ Yep - that's about right - that said, I usually find mine word of mouth, start them with small stuff, see how they do, then move on to the bigger stuff.
