Where to find kick ass designers?

Stupid question, I know. But it seems to be hard to find REALLY good people. Like I'm myself able to do design for my daily needs, but sometimes I need something to stand out and kick ass.
A long time ago I used 99designs and liked the idea, even found some good designs. But their fee structure became ridiculously high. Looked around here a bit but as soon as I see some portfolio mainly consisting of logos I just keep running.
Any suggestions?

As long as this is the only thing you do with your ass ;)
But I noticed that I probably use the wrong description for what I am looking for. I am not looking for screaming "buy me" design, but more a print/corporate design direction. Like clear lines, lots of space, something like one would imagine the annual report of Apple or Nike would look like.

I posted it on WF as my first post if I remember right.

We're into that too a bit, but mostly CPA type stuff.
 
I found good designer both here and on Freelancer.com. You just have to be realistic about the price. A good designer knows his/her value, and won't do work for cheap. I paid $300 for a kick ass logo to a designer based in Ukraine that I found on this forum.
