White House reaches out to its broke liberal student base, plans loan relief

Votes, bro. Votes.

I don't think Obama is an idiot. But I do think the people he surrounds himself with are liberals.

Might this be a good time to mention that the state can never be made legitimate? That using the system to change the system is for naught?

In other words...

Another example of government stepping in and fucking things up.

If you're only required to pay 10% of your income for student loans and the debt is forgiven after 20 years... guess what's going to happen?

Tuition is going through the roof.

So who's ultimately going to pay the difference? (that's a rhetorical question by the way)

You realize he was talking about a student loan debt relief plan (pretty much identical to this) when he was running for office, right?

Wait a second. Do you mean to say he's actually following through with a campaign promise?

So what? It was bad then, and it's bad now. It's the same political pandering to a base

This is great. Borrow money and not have to pay it back. Mortgage relief and student loan relief I missed out on. How can I get me some of this?

P.S. Don't any of you send me a link to some freakin' gov grant rebill or whatever you're pushing now.

Found and article today that outlines this, looks like it will only save the average grad $10 a month:

Obama's Student-Loan Order Saves the Average Grad Less Than $10 a Month - Daniel Indiviglio - Business - The Atlantic

  • He will clear the way for borrowers with direct government loans and government-backed private loans to consolidate their balances. The White House estimates that this will cut the effective interest rate on student loans by up to 0.5%.
  • He will limit the amount of student loan payments to 10% of a graduate's income. (Currently, the limit is 15%.)
  • He will allow debt still outstanding after 20 years to be forgiven. (Currently, forgiveness occurs after 25 years.)
